Kallis says Räsänen scapegoated for church resignations
Local Finland News In English
Bjarne Kallis, the chair of the Christian Democratic party's parliamentary faction, said Päivi Räsänen, the party leader, had been made into a scapegoat for the recent torrent of people leaving the church. Record numbers of people have left the Evangelical-Lutheran church since the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) hosted a televised debate over gay rights last Tuesday. Räsänen was one of the guests on the programme. Kallis said Räsänen had spoken as a politician, not as a representative of the church. Source: Helsinki Times
