Is Seer Stone In Hat True Form Of Revelation?

I just recently learned that Joseph Smith translated the BofM by using a seer stone in a hat.

Question #1: Is using a seer stone in a hat a true form of revelation?

Question #2: If I'm suppose to receive a testimony about the BofM, why wasn't I ever taught this actual manner in which Joseph Smith translated the BofM? huh.gif

Revelation Form True Hat Stone Seer Is

Phil_a_lethes, you are new so I will just warn you for now, MrSmith does not like messages posted out of context and on the wrong board. Please read the rules and look for the appropriate board for your messages. I feel inclined to let you know two things:
1. If your questions or rant is positive it may go in the LDS Deep Doctrine board
2. If it is negative in nature or have nothing to do with LDS Doctrine then please put it in the board called, 'Religious Beliefs, Cultures & Traditions'

I'm surprised that you don't know that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon using the Urim and Thummim, after all when you read the history of Joseph Smith you will see that when he found the plates, he also found these two seer stones with it. You can read it in 'The History of Joseph Smith' located in the back of your scriptures.

I don't know where did you get that he had the two stones on his hat, whether he has them there or not, it doesn't make a difference to me. Of course using the Urim and Thumming ARE a form of revelation since these two stones were used anciently, in the old times. You can make a search about it also.
"Also, that there were two stones in silver bows-and these stones, fastened to a breastplate, constituted what is called the Urim and Thummim-deposited with the plates; and the possession and use of these stones were what constituted 'seers" in ancient or former times; and that God had prepared them for the purpose of translating the book." (JS-H 1:34-35.)

I am sure you was taught to read the History of Joseph Smith and in there it mentions the two seer stones you talked about, I remember when I got my discussions the missionaries mentioned this and I have also been in different homes where the missionaries teach and this was also mentioned. Remember also that the Gospel is something we MUST study, we cannot expect that we could be taught in every little thing, we need to make an effort and study it ourselves.
Based on your question, I think you may be reading some anti-mormon material, although I am nobody to judge that, I would just suggest you to research on many NOT anti-mormon web sites where you can also find a lot of historical material. Anti-mormons in general are very deceiving, because they want to emphasized a point or two but they may exagerated the rest, so just be careful with what kind of literature you may be reading. I wish you well in your research.
