Drea what do you mean by black tea? The regular tea? I ask because I never tried black tea before or at least not with that name. Often times during winter time I like to drink a hot peppermint tea after dinner.
Black tea, black tea, what the heck is black tea....hmmm, all I know is that in America, it's the tea used by most, it's not considered a herbal tea...it says it on the package, black tea...it's the tea you would get at a restaraunt, if you ordered tea. I do drink Chamomile tea with peppermint in it, I love that, in fact I make ice tea out of it and drink it hot when I don't feel good. But I am no tea expert..... When I lived on Okinowa, we drank rose-hip tea, orange blossom tea, and some other stuff, I don't remember. I have always thought it was okay to drink herbal tea; please don't tell me I'm wrong.
Oh okay so the black tea is actually the normal tea. At least that's how I call it. I thought it was maybe a different kind.
Drea please read the Thread to understand what "tea" is an what an "infusion" is - they are very different.
Tea is a plant, it is called the "Tea plant", when you drink "tea" you are drinking the "Tea plant".
When you drink a herb it just means you are making a brew from a plant but the word "herb" on its own does not specify the type of plant.
When you say you want to drink "Herb tea" then you are saying you want to drink from the Tea plant.
We are told to not drink Tea, which means the Tea plant. Therefore anything with the Tea plant in it would not be permissible (for example LiptonTea).
Green tea, Black tea, Yellow tea, and all the other names just means it is variants from the SAME tea plant.
Now there is one aspect to this based on culture. The word "Tea" for some cultures refers to all hot drinks that are not made from coffee. Yet in other cultures "Tea" may refer to hot chocolate as well. It is my understanding that Tea within the context of the Word of Wisdom refers to the Tea plant. Therefore to be sure you will need to read the ingredients of all 'herb' drinks bought to ensure it does not list "Tea" as an ingredient.
I know at least here, we are told some herbal teas are fine.
Actually though when this Green Tea became so popular in the last couple years-especially in the area of dieting, my mom started drinking it and there were a couple members discussing it, they came to the conclusion it was considered an okay herbal tea--I did some research and found somewhere that it is definitely not okay...Much to moms dismay!) I find staying away from the "colored" name teas helps a little. I enjoy peppermint and herbal teas for relaxation.
