Battered Wife: Police Killed Man I Loved

Sometimes when you read stories like this, it made you think why some people do not like to intervene in cases of domestic violence. This woman was beaten in the past to the point that she had to move out. The man had previous convictions and their daughter was pleading in behalf of her mother because she knew her mother was beaten before. Guess what? The mother and daughter are now saying the man treated the wife "really good" and would never do anything to hurt her. They are also saying how the woman in question was quietly laying down in bed with the guy when the police suddenly break in, killed the dog and without questions killed the guy. I mean, are we supposed to believe that?

Giselle Balkaran-Phillip, the "battered" wife snatched by her husband and "rescued" at a house in La Brea a week later, is now accusing the police of murdering the man she loved.

Police said they had no choice but to use deadly force on Andre "Rabbit" Phillip, 38, because he pulled a gun when they stormed the house on Wednesday afternoon.

But Balkaran-Phillip told relatives yesterday her husband had no weapon.

She said Phillip hugged and kissed her and told her he loved her and the children before police burst into the house and shot him in the mouth.

Police yesterday denied the claims, stating they recovered a .38 revolver from Phillip. Senior police officers said the suspect fired at the officers who responded. Investigators said they were responding to a report the woman was being held captive at the house.

A week before the abduction, Balkaran-Phillip had left the matrimonial home to stay with her mother at Warden Road, Point Fortin.

Last week Wednesday, two men wearing masks walked in and dragged her away.

Phillip, released from prison of a drug charge two months ago, was identified as the driver of the getaway car.

He crashed the car a short distance away and commandeered a passing vehicle. The car was found abandoned at South Central Road, Guapo, that evening.

Since then, police and relatives made contact with the couple by cell phone. They were reportedly staying in a forested area. Phillip promised to surrender and release his wife.

The couple's daughter, Nikifa Phillip, 19, appealed for her mother's release, saying she had been beaten in the past.

Relatives yesterday said the couple, on Tuesday, apparently went to a house belonging to Phillip's (Andre) cousin. It was there police found them on Wednesday. Officers said they had to shoot a pitbull to get into the house.

At her mother's home in Point Fortin yesterday, Balkaran-Phillip was too distraught to speak as she sat next to her daughter, Nikifa, 19, who recounted what her mother told her.

"My father was murdered by the policemen. He had no gun and he was ready to give up himself. My mother said she and my father were lying on a bed (at the house in La Brea) watching television when they heard two sounds like gunshots...

Loved Man Killed Police Wife Battered

Wow it seems like she needs some therapy but I doubt she will receive it. After all the work the police did to save her, is that her reply?
