I recounted a childhood experience I had with "witchcraft"/magic--with an Ouija board, which is a tool of witches and practitioners of magic. We sought out good spirits, yet only evil came through the door we opened.
I loved the show called "Charmed" about 3 good witch sisters in the modern day. I always wished that good magic existed, yet, according to Church doctrine and teachings, the only magic is that of Satan.
No one more than I wishes this not to be true. I do believe in paranormal abilities though, and that those are not born of evil. I believe that, like modern science suggests, man is capable of only using a minute portion of the brains capabilities. I also believe that some humans are capable of using, or accessing, somewhat more of their brains capabilities, hence, "paranormal" or unusual abilities.
How does "healings" apply to this with other religions. On my mission I lived in a Muslim country, in a Hindu village, on the outskirts of a Buddhist village. I've seen many a things such as healings and such that were not in accordance with the teachings of the church. My wife was Wickka when I met here ( I baptised her later and we were sealed) but has many a stories of healings. I fully believe that the Priesthood is Gods authority. Does Satan allow healings to persuade other away from the truth, but with that being the case what of carismatic sects healings "in the name of Christ"?
Nate, I think healings occur outside the Church on a daily basis without a Priesthood holder able to give a blessing, it would be naive to think only LDS members can be healed of physical afflictions or only those who are given a blessing through the Priesthood. There are literally millions of people in this world that have been healed by the power of personal Faith and Prayer.
And the healings from the Hindu's and Buddhists? I do have my opinion but just would like some insights from others. I've witnessed a very negitive experience with a healing that had a foul spirit and then I've been apart of a healing of a Hindu that did not believe in Jesus Christ.
I do not think it makes a difference as long as it is done with the right intention and Faith is being exercised towards God.
Rather off topic, but... I live in Trinidad, a Caribbean island with a strong Hindu population. I talked to them several times about Jesus Christ and he is esteem as a God (they believe God is manifested in many "forms") |
The equation is very simple... if it is not done in and by His name then the source is not his power. Now ask, do the Hinus' magic, and the Buddhists' magic and the whomsoever's magic do what they do by His name believing?
Now we can argue that they are still thinking in 'God', a name at that, and that is true, and it is important to understand the principle of faith which is universal and capable of being invoked by all, but the element of magic is not godly.
Here is a basic example: When you get up in the morning and eat bread, you may consider how you were able to get it - the source of that ultimately came from God, but for another it might be their money, their hard work, and so forth that enabled them to eat bread. Regardless, were it not for God they could not eat bread. There is a difference between acknowledging a source and it being the source.
Well said and that in so many words is how I feel. Like its said in the scriptures there are only two churches. It is good to acknowledge these other healings and "miracles" for thoes of a weak testimony surly will falter at such an event. We need to fortify ourselfs against these powers now and for the ones that the Antichrist will use to deceive the kings of nations. DC section 50 is a great guide on the spirits of this world.
I have personally been very uncertain on this subject, I have even done a bit of research on world religions, that there have been many examples of other "powers", walking on hot coals, seeing auras, on increasing ones health and body through meditation and chants. A big example of this is Wicca, a religion with magick, but that is teaches one to never use their powers to hurt others, even having what is called 'the Three Fold Rule" simply put any evil or good you deal to another is returned to you three times. Meaning, from what I can see, that casting evil magick will come back to bite the person in the butt (so to speak). So they are told to only use their power to help or heal others. Now I am not saying that any of the above examples are not from Satan, just that I am uncertain that we should categorize all other "powers" as from Satan.
