What does everyone think about the new chain of video stores, called Clean Flicks.
I wrote my congressman to urge him to allow the chain to continue for my childrens sake and mine.
My husband and I find it hard to find movies that we want to view or that our children can view. Does anyone else have this problem?
1. We don't have a franchise near here, at least not that I've heard of.
2. Why would you need to write to your congresscritter about it? is the chain in danger of being shut down? I'm not sure I understand why you would need to get the government involved. The way to keep the store in business is to patronize them.
3. I think everyone has that problem with today's movies. My family has not had TV in two years. We watch movies on tape, and once in a while go to the theater, but mainstream TV is so awful these days, we got rid of it. We are much better off without it. I do miss the news broadcasts, but I don't miss having offensive, explicit, screaming commercials in my (and my kid's) face.

Wow, do you think that to get rid of the TV was so neccesary? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just curious about it because I know of several LDS families who also don't have televisions at home. I think it's not really necessary but I'm open to listen the reasons
I've read about clean flicks - I think there might be copyright issues. Although if the industries had any sense they'd do this themselves.
I know of people as well that have gotten rid of their tv's. I've cut back on tv because of the internet lol. I also tape what I watch so I can fast forward thru commercials. I tape because everything comes on too late, fast forwarding thru commercials is a benefit.
I can also fast forward through the boring parts -

My reasons are simply that the programming is getting more "worldly" all the time. Homosexuality is portrayed as "normal" on a lot of shows. Foul and obscene language is becoming "normal," as well as nearly pornographic music videos on *children's programming*.
And even when you are watching shows that are "safe" you get commercials that are definitely NOT. I don't need 500 channels to choose from - when one show is just as bad as the next, and where certainly the commercials you have no choice whatsoever. It's just invasive, annoying, and inappropriate programming. The only way I can choose what I want in my home is to get it on tape, and what I don't want just doesn't come here.
In my opinion, of course.

Farseer, I understand what you're saying. I don't know where you live but TV is only one place where you will find all these things but your kids see it every day at school, in the streets, with their friends, everywhere! I'm not trying to make you scared just thinking that TV may reduce a lot of these issues at home but what about outside?

That's exactly my point. It's bad enough "out there" in the streets, where my daughter may have to face these things.. Why should she have to have it in her face from TV? Why should I invite that world into my home? Our homes are to be as sacred as temples. A blaring, obscene TV has no place here.
In my opinion.
