Yes, it is quite possible that the Lord allowed the ban to stay for so long. I'm glad people like Hugh B. Brown and a few other leaders tried their best to reverse the ban since the late 1960's.

Yes, he indeed thought that but let's not forget he was a 19th century man and it was a common and shared belief at that time.

It clearly wasn't that common. Being that a war on the issue was on the horizon. Many churches were against it. Quakers etc.Funny how often the Lord falls behind the abominable churches. In fact Young was against it himself until he found a black elder messing with a white woman. Then he went bananas. He never said God told him that. He should have asked.

I think we can agree that Mc Cary's situation is what contributed to the introduction of the ban however I believe there were also many other factors related to Young's environment and time.

Still his comments were supposed to be inspired. I certainly can't see that coming from God. If it didn't, why did he call slavery a divine institution?

Punklegend, because not every word that comes out from a Prophet's mouth is scripture or inspired. I don't believe the ban to be inspired and the new changes made in OD2 are significant.

I don't understand why some members feel they can challenge or put in doubt the words of a Prophet of God. Are you a member of the Church? Do you believe this Church is true? Do you believe Brigham Young was a Prophet? He lived in the 19th century as it was mentioned before and there are a lot of things we don't have answers for. Assuming that the ban was uninspired is just a matter of personal opinion.
