Brigham Young said that everything he preached to the children of men can be considered scripture. E T Benson said that he doesn't have to prefix anything with 'thus saith the Lord'. Yet the church says the prophets are often wrong. So who's debating the prophet and why would anyone believe someone of lesser rank?. Who are they and what is their authority? No biblical prophet contradicted a previous one. He would have been sawn asunder.
I think most reasonable folks can agree that Brigham Young said a lot of things and did a lot of things that were not inspired and no I'm not apostatizing I'm saying the truth. Having said that, we need to keep in mind that he was a MAN, there shouldn't be an expectation of perfection just because he happened to be a prophet.
Please, let's keep on topic which is Blacks and the Priesthood. There are threads for everything else.
Personally, I think the Church view on the Priesthood Ban has changed dramatically over the years. Who knows, maybe in a few years we might even hear an apology or acknowledgement of the ban being an "Error".
Pandora what error? Are you suggesting the ban was a mistake? The Lord doesn't commit mistakes and if we believe in God's inspired Prophets then we can conclude that the ban was introduced by Him, we can't pick and choose what we want to believe from them and what we don't want.
Punklegend I respect the fact that you are a former member (just read your introduction) but I am a member and I believe in Heavenly Father's inspired leaders and I don't believe for a second that this ban was the product of a racist man. That's so disrespectful that it upsets me so much! I do understand that we don't know why the Lord placed this restriction but one day all things will be revealed to us.
If the Lord's prophets do not make mistakes. [Then what about other doctrines like...]
I will reply in the appropriate thread since the moderators are very strict with regards to keeping the discussions on topic.
I did not say Brigham Young never committed mistakes, what I am saying is that the ban was not a mistake. Do you think a Prophet will allow his personal bigotry to take over and deny the blessings of the Priesthood for more than 150 years? No, I don't believe that.
