CHURCH OPENS MEETINGHOUSES TO ARGENTINE FLOOD EVACUEES

Hundreds have sought shelter in Church meetinghouses following flooding and heavy rains in Argentina. For several days, rain has drenched parts of Argentina, causing widespread flooding that has killed at least 7 people. Nearly 37,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes, prompting the Church to offer its meetinghouses as shelters in the affected areas.

Mormons in Argentina reminded of church's position on gay marriage

BUENOS AIRES - In a letter read Sunday in sacrament meetings throughout Argentina, the LDS Church reaffirmed its doctrine of marriage being between a man and a woman. Argentina's senate will be debating same-sex union legislation this week and a proposed bill to allow same-sex couples to adopt. The latter is scheduled for a vote this week. Ref. Source 2

I knew this was coming. In four cities we already have civil unions and the President was clear when she said she won't block the bill if is passed. I believe it WILL be pass. Argentina is huge with regards to gay rights.

Members Safe After Flooding in Argentina

Many Church members lost their homes in La Plata, Argentina, during the early hours of Tuesday, April 2, when a record-breaking storm inundated the area with more than 10 inches of rain in just a few hours. Water levels quickly rose, flooding many neighborhoods and low-lying areas and causing at least 52 deaths. Several people drowned after being trapped in their cars or while walking along city streets as the water quickly rose. The same storm killed at least five people in Buenos Aires. Ref. Source 8
