I think if we start naming our children after people of the BOM, as we read it as a family that child will see how someone they are named after behaves maybe they will take on the characteristics of that individual. So be careful if you decide to call your son Laban or even Korihor.

Book of Mormon names are quite common where I live. We have nephi's, moroni's, ammon's, ammaron's, almas..Zeniff's, Helaman's....we even have a laman and a lemuel...what those parents were thinking I don't know! But we also have other church names like Zion, Temple, Bountiful, Zenos. I once read a New Era article where a missionary couple named their new born son Moroni as a missionary tool because they were not allowed to publicly share the gospel but through the name of their son people asked questions about the strange name they gave their son and it was a way for this couple to talk about the church! I love the name Lamoni, but I am also a Nephi, Lehi, Moroni and a Helaman fan!
