Google
We already have a thread about their search bar and one about their payment system (Search for keyword: 'Google' within this Board), this is about Google changes in general.
Has anyone else checked out the new personalized google home page? I really like it. I put my favorite links and have top ESPN and news stories beside my local weather on my home page. It integrates with gmail seamlessly and allows a gmail monitor on your homepage too. I recommend trying it out as googles latest internet one stop shopping offering.
I recently attended a seminar on search engine optimization and learned an interesting tidbit of info regarding Google's free downloadable toolbar. There is a feature within it called 'Page Rank'. When you browse various sites, the Page Rank bar will rank those web pages between 1 and 10, 10 being the better ranking.
To improve your search engine ranking for your web sites, you should try to increase your 'Link Popularity'. You can do this by exchanging links with high-ranking sites which provide related information. I learned that you want to exchange links with sites that rank 5 or higher on the Google page rank bar. Lower ranking sites that link to yours can actually hurt your ranking. Also, beware of 'Link Farmers', those sites that list random, unrelated links. They are generally not ranked highly and won't help your search engine ranking. They also tend to be the ones soliciting link exchanges.
Hope you find this of interest!
