With average prices nearing $300,000, Utahns are finding it harder to afford the houses they want. An economic analysis presented Thursday by Wells Fargo economists shows a huge disparity between housing prices and incomes in Utah.

Sales of existing homes had a record decline in September while median home prices fell by the largest amount in nearly a year, reflecting deepening problems across the nation in the troubled housing market.

Condo prices surged in Salt Lake area in 2007
The Utah housing market is one of the strongest in the nation, and that trend is especially evident in Salt Lake City's thriving condominium market.
In the past year, the average sales-price increase in the 11 zip-code areas for Salt Lake City ranged from a modest 4 percent in the east-side Emigration Canyon area to a whopping 103 percent in the Foothill/Parleys area. More than half of the zip codes in Salt Lake City saw an increase in condo sales prices in the range of 10 percent to 20 percent, said Babs De Lay, a real estate agent for Urban Utah Homes and Estates.

Sales of Utah homes drop 33.8%
Sales of existing homes in Utah dropped 33.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2007, compared to the fourth-quarter of 2006, mirroring decreases in much of the rest of the nation, according to a report released Thursday by the National Association of Realtors.

Real Salt Lake still scoreless, winless on road
CARSON, Calif. - Real Salt Lake tried something different Saturday night in hopes of its first road breakthrough of the season. Against the best team in MLS, the visitors came out and utilized a much more conservative approach. Ref. Source 1
Utah seems to be one of the states where the houses still quite expensive despite recession, of course you have some affordable ones but the areas where you can find them is not worth it.
