The Original Apostles

Have you ever wondered what happened to the original Apostles called by Christ? Here is a summary from the Fox's 'Book of the Martyrs':

Judas - committed suicide
Phillip - crucified in Phrygia AD 54
Matthew - slain in Ethiopia - AD 60
James the Less - killed by Jews
Matthias - stoned then beheaded at Jerusalem
Andrew - crucified at Edessa
Mark - dragged until dead in Alexandria
Peter - crucified at Rome*
Paul - beheaded at Rome
Thaddeus - crucified at Edessa AD 72
Matthew - crucified in India
Thomas - killed in India
Luke - hanged in Greece
Simon Zealots - crucified Britain AD 74
Barnabas - unknown
John - transfigured

*Some painting depict Peter being crucified upsided down upon his request as he did not want to 'take away' from the way his Savior was crucified (right side up).

1 Nephi 11:34
34 And after he was slain I saw the multitudes of the earth,
that they were gathered together to fight against the apostles of
the Lamb; for thus were the twelve called by the angel of the
Lord.

1 Nephi 11:35
35 And the multitude of the earth was gathered together; and I
beheld that they were in a large and spacious building, like unto
the building which my father saw. And the angel of the Lord
spake unto me again, saying: Behold the world and the wisdom
thereof; yea, behold the house of Israel hath gathered together
to fight against the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

John was given the responsibility of caring for Mary, Christ's mother. He was one of the most dedicated of the Apostles, staying until the bitter end. He wrote the Gospel of John and also Revelations while he was on the Isle of Patmos -- exiled, I believe? God gave the Revelations to Christ, who sent "his angel" to give them to John. (Rev. 1:1).

Amazing that they all died -- many of them truly horrible deaths -- for what they believed in, for what they *knew*.
