Babies And Spiritual Experiences

Our second son (Jonah) who is 28 months is one of the sweetest kids on Earth. He seems too shy to speak yet but we realized a while ago that besides saying Mamma and Dadda, his third word was "Jesus". Yes, he loves Jesus. We have a painting of the Savior in our room and he just loves to smile at the painting, pointing to it with his little finger and say Jesus, Jesus in a very soft tone. When we take the painting and we give it to him, he would look at the picture very reverently, hug it tight and walk around with the portrait all over the house.

Twenty minutes ago, was nap time. As usual, he gave me trouble to sleep because he feels he misses something when he is asleep. So I took the portrait of Jesus and a small tiny little Bible and give it to him. He lay down looking at Jesus eyes with such reverence and respect that moved me to tears, hug it with one hand while "Reading" the tiny bible with the other hand. He fall asleep quickly after that. He is such a spiritual giant caught inside the body of a toddler…

Our special Jonah.

I thought it was so cool that I had to run and grab a picture of it. I put it here at the top as any excited parent would who wants to show off a little wink.gif.

Rather off topic, but...
I think we need to put one in the Bible Revealed Board as well as not everyone has access to here.

Experiences Spiritual Babies

So cute! Thank you for sharing! It is wonderful to have children in our home that demonstrate this kind of faith, teach us, and increase our testimonies. These types of experiences make me want to become a better parent! It also helps me realize that what we are teaching them at home through family home evening and at primary really does work! We also have had several experiences with our children, but we have one child in particular who seems to be a spiritual giant--our oldest son.

At the age of 18 months, he would go through the house and find every picture of Jesus, the temple, and the prophet that he could find, and he would tell us what they were. He would hold onto these pictures very tightly. At the time, we lived down the street from a temple so the temple was a daily word for him. When he was 24 months, he out of the blue came and sat by me and said a prayer. He said, "Heavenly Father, fish and a crying baby. Name of Christ, Amen." That was all he knew how to say, but a pretty good prayer. We had been trying to have another baby at the time, but with no luck. Well, I ended up getting pregnant within that month that he said the prayer without fertility medication. I guess he said crying baby because he knew that real babies cried. We bought him fish for Christmas that year so his prayer was answered.

A few months into my pregnancy, we were walking around the store together. He kept looking above his head, and kept saying over and over again, "Hi, Jacob! Hi, Jacob! Hi, Jacob!" He would wave and laugh. We decided to name our next son Jacob. We had not thought of this name before. We had never discussed this name.

Throughout this child's life (he is now 9) he has always been a spiritual strength to our family. We don't have to tell him to read his scriptures, write in his journal, memorize scriptures or articles of faith, he just does it on his own. At his baptism at the age of 8, our young son was able to see beyond the veil and had a very spiritual experience, which included being able to see other male family members who had died. He said that they had come to help confirm him a member of the church. He is always impressing us with his knowledge and deep questions of the gospel. We are constantly on our toes checking doctrine to keep up with him and teach him correct truths. He is going to be an awesome missionary someday!

The scriptures say,

QUOTE

3 Ne. 11: 37-38
37 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and become as a little child, and be baptized in my name, or ye can in nowise receive these things.
38 And again I say unto you, ye must repent, and be baptized in my name, and become as a little a child, or ye can in nowise inherit the kingdom of God.

So important for us to become as little children that it is repeated. I am so grateful for children that teach me to have more faith.
