Something I'm curious about on the same topic is dragons, their relation to dinosaurs and the truth of their existence. Both the Book of Mormon and the Bible mention dragons, I think the bible actually calls them dragons while the Book of Mormon simply calls them flying fiery serpants.
In any case, I've always imagined dragons, lizards and the such to be akin to dinosaurs. Lizards are definetly still around and many lizards that we call dragons. I think if dragons have been around, there is no doubt that there have also been dinosaurs here on earth.

Nicolla,

Ithink most people are curious about dragons! Personally, I think a lot of myths and legends are based on some original truth (in varying degrees of corruption). sometimes symbols get mixed up with reality, but even symbols had their origins in reality.

I do not think I would be saying anything unbelievable if I were to state: there were certainly animals in existence in the past that we do not know about, that have not been identified - we do not even know all the species that are alive!).

Dubhdara.

If we examine the people of Ai in the Old Testament we will see that they were a race of giants (like Goliath) and they are now extinct most likely due to them being placed in battle all the time. Who knows what 'other' creatures might have been used that are now extinct. However, we can see that the views on Dinosaurs seems to be split - one set believing that they were used in the formation of the Earth and others believing that they were part of the creatures that roamed the Earth.

Why would the Lord permit any of His creations to become extinct? If dragons or dinosaurs or anything else for that matter existed on this planet, wouldn't it be to fulfill the measure of their creation? Why would He permit a species to be exterminated? Even man, who exterminates himself, is protected by the Lord from absolute destruction time and time again, as Noah's ark demonstrates. The Lord will propogate the species, all the species, until the final day. He leads the righteous from the wicked and hides them from the world in general. The Nephites and Lamanites and Jaredites are witness enough for this. Can't He do the same thing for the animal kingdom?

All the evidence I've seen witnesses that the Lord saves "all the works of His hands." Animals, plants, everything.

As for dragons, there is a lot of evidence for their actual existence in the past and also some for their modern existence. For example, Lord Nathaniel Parker gave an account of finding "Dragon Island," in which he found all sorts of supposedly mythical creatures. H.W. M. McKinlay has posted the facts about Lord Parker's remarkable voyage online. Read it and come to your own conclusions:

'Unprecedented Discovery of The Dragon Islands' by Lord Nathaniel Parker R.S.

As far as fulfilling the measure of their creation, I'm not sure exactly what that means for animals, but I am quite sure that there have been many species go extinct. The Dodo bird is a recent example. Animals aren't the central part of our creator's plans, so the need to propogate their species isn't quite as great as the need to propogate our own.

Buggeyes, I am not sure what you are trying to say... if everything lives from the beginning til now then where are they - I am talking about everything not just one species. Second, the link you added does not work, but let us keep this doctrinal please - not scientific. You can used the paranormal board if you want to pursue it from that angle.

I've read 2 great books that approach thoughts such as these shared in this thread. I only remember the one, "Of Heaven and Earth: Reconciling Scientific Thought with LDS Theology" Edited by David L. Clark, Desert Books, 1998. The other book is even more detailed "Earth: In the Beginning", by Eric N. Skousen.

Sounds like you are right on track. During the creation process elements were taken in order to create this earth. As we can see, its not a matter of blinking an eye and suddenly a world appears, but it is actually a process, one that Heavenly Father so beautifully engineered

I have heard this theory before, but it never quite made sense...to me...but, I'm by no means an expert.

Why would these dinosaurs not be resurrected....I mean if these animal remains were brought from one world and placed on our world for our benefit...that does not seem fair; did they miss out on their world's resurrection. I thought, if you are born with a body, you will be resurrected with a body....all living things.
