So, if God created meat for those who believe and know the truth, would it be wrong not to eat it? I think that may be going to far. What do you guys think? |
Rather off topic, but... Make sure to update your profile so you can get rid of the green frog, learn how to use quote tags and offtopic tags. Thanks. |
QUOTE |
I tend to lean towards the idea that unless there is a medical reason to be obese that perhaps it would be good to do this. |
Thank you for the source! I was also thinking of the Aaronic priesthood and how they were commanded to partake of the meat of the animals sacrificed before the Lord.
QUOTE |
First, I do not think the Church would never do this. (We had/have a couple of Apostles and General Authorities pretty "chubby") Second, can you imagine how complicated would be to find out individual cases of whether there is a medical condition or is simply a lack of self mastery? I think the right approach in my opinion should be to emphasize the point about not only eating meat sparingly but the importance of healthy weight and healthy food. Some years ago, the manuals of Relief Society used to touch topics like this on detail, but not anymore. |

Also, what does eating meat have to do with keeping fit? |
QUOTE |
The problem is the amount and type of meat. Certain meats are full of fat and bacteria (all meats have bacteria) making them unhealthy foods. Large amounts of meat causes problems with the heart and other diseases just like obesity or do you think people who are extremely overweight just eat salads and fruits? |

Bacteria is no problem if you cook the meat. |
QUOTE |
We are designed to overeat -- our body's are stupid, they perceive lack of food as famine and so when food is present we are designed to eat as much as possible. |
A very nice quote by President Benson:
QUOTE |
To a great extent we are physically what we eat. Most of us are acquainted with some of the prohibitions, such as no tea, coffee, tobacco, or alcohol. What needs additional emphasis are the positive aspects--the need for vegetables, fruits, and grains, particularly wheat. In most cases, the closer these can be, when eaten, to their natural state--without over refinement and processing--the healthier we will be. To a significant degree, we are an overfed and undernourished nation digging an early grave with our teeth, and lacking the energy that could be ours because we overindulge in junk foods. I am grateful to know that on the Brigham Young University campus you can get apples from vending machines, that you have in your student center a fine salad bar, and that you produce an excellent loaf of natural whole-grain bread. Keep it up and keep progressing in that direction. We need a generation of young people who, as Daniel, eat in a more healthy manner than to fare on the "king's meat"--and whose countenances show it (see Daniel 1) Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p. 476-7, from "In His Steps," BYU Devotional 1979 |
Now here is something interesting. Below is an excellent documentary on obesity in the USA. Did you know that children whose parents restrict their access to junk food wind up with fatter kids?
