I don't find it particularly ironic because the name "Jesus" is, from what I have read, a very common name. I have seen it written as a form of Joshua. So, that would mean that the man's name was actually Simon bar-Joshua.

Of course, I could be very wrong.

You're right nighthhawk. The name means the son of Joshua but yeah it's kind of funny that Joshua is also another name for Jesus.
