Yes it is not a good time for the region, which is further south than I'm located in New Zealand, by about 5 hours.

I'm not sure what the media coverage is internationally as living in NZ it is tough to gage, but I will post on here if I here any new information.

international QUOTE (CNN)
The 29 workers trapped after an explosion Friday in a New Zealand mine are confirmed dead, a police official says.

A tragedy of utmost proportions. In one case all survived (Chile) and here none did. I feel for the families, especially the children that lost their fathers.

Yes it was such a tragedy. They think that maybe the levels of gas were high enough that maybe the miners could not have survived until the second larger blast took place.

They are still having trouble with the gas levels so are not able to send down any men to try and recover the bodies. I hope that they will be able to achieve this goal soon to give the families a final closure to this horrible experience for them.

Such a tragedy. Its been head-lining news here in Australia which of course it should be. There seemed so much hope especially after the mine collapse in Chile and now with the second explosion, all hope is gone. No one could have survived that and the poisonous gases. Its so sad. Those poor families, my heart goes out to them.
