Comments: I recently had my first child( a son) at Mamatoto. This is a true gem in terms of methods used in the birthing process. Debbie one of the centre´s directors was my lead midwife and she delivered my baby with professionalism and ease, assisted by my Doula ( a last minute call) as my first doula feel ill when I was due and Debbie was assisted by Nalini from Holland.
The service is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful it is first world care using a midwifery model of care, really there is no other option for me for my future births; my husband and I were completely satisfied from our first orientation with Mrs. Stollmayer to our prenatal visits and the actual birth. I would recommend Mamatoto to anyone having a low risk pregnancy. Thanks to Debbie and the team

What is the cost of delivering there? I am due in 11 weeks, and although I'm being seen at Mount Hope, I'm having difficulty resigning myself to giving birth there.

I have given birth to four healthy children in Canada, and the difference in public health care systems are so blatant. The lack of compassion for the patients here, the bad attitude of nurses, as well as the lack of funding for even the simplest of necessities to run the hospital makes most women afraid of labouring and delivering at Mount Hope.

What other alternatives are there for childbirth here in Trinidad? I am searching for a clean, safe, welcoming place to have my baby, one where they welcome the father and encourage his participation through labour, delivery, and post delivery.

First of all congratulations. I don't know what it costs or anything about the Mamatoto birth centre but give them a call and go see the place. Make sure you're comfortable before going. If they can talk to you well enough and you like the facility then probably it will be a good experience.
