My reason for being here is simple. I'm looking for like minds, people who like to dwell in fantasy, to help me expand upon my works. I am currently working on a six book series, (still a fledgling endeavor, unfortunately) called the Dark Sage Chronicles. In this series, I have constructed an expansive and original universe, and the limitations of my imagination and intellect provide me with ample room to maneuver, allowing me to create a universe both vividly real and yet mind bogglingly extraordinary. I am however, limited by my daunting inability to focus, my thoughts rampage wildly, creating and creating constantly a world that I am still failing to bring to life on paper. I need a focus... To hunker down, character by character, and bring them to life. Motivations, politics, relationships, distinctions between witches and witch doctors, I want an original universe created from the culmination of humankind's most glorious mythologies, cultures, philosophical concepts, dreams and inspirations, desires and fears, something that encompasses what it is to be human, in a universe where the only limitations are how far you are willing to reach, how much you are willing to sacrifice, and whether at that crucial moment, you are that single step ahead of your vastly stronger opponent. I'm looking for someone, or maybe a few people, to help me build worlds and guide characters by role playing them through deceptions, intrigues, and who don't mind the more adult nature of my works. I wholly empathize with the need to deter teeny boppers in an role playing community... Bad experiences.
Greetings RPGer
We have FOUR types of RPGs here, which one are you interested in:
1. Start Now Type: For those who want to start immediately in a TURN based environment (like MMORPG) then you need to go to: Ruler of Kings or Emperor of Asia or Future Terra or Jerusalem Conquest or Lazarus or Germany 1939 and register on those. The Boards that handle Discussion for these games is located within this Community. Use the Site Map if you are unsure how to find them.
For Dungeons & Dragons Play by Post then go HERE.
2. Integrated RPGs: This is where the Play by Post and custom script RPGs are part of the Community. Games like Matrix: Plugged, Cozyville, Be A Super Hero RPG and others considers what you do in the Community and thus it affects game play. To see a list of these check the RPG Listing page.
3. Writer's Paradise: For for those who prefer well thought out storylines via Play by Post where the players are more mature then keep reading below:
You need to make 30 Constructive Posts and a 75% activity level as a test to see how well you can participate in our Text Based Games, so get started now by selecting a Board and giving your input. The activity level is to ensure that you are not one of those types that join and then expect to play after days or weeks on inactivity. The best way to make your 30 posts is to use the INDEX scroll down, pick one or two of those Boards that interest you and start Posting! After you make your 30 Posts return here to reply and request 'RPGer Status'.
4. Share Book RPG: This is the EASIEST type of text RPG to get involved in because it only takes you joining in a Thread with a current Book Scenario and giving your vote in which direction a character should move. To see current games go to the Member Wars Board. In the Member Wars section you will also find Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 Play by Post where you can create a character and start right away..

NOTE: If you need help with any of the above choices please DO ASK detailed questions in your next Reply to this Thread. We are here to help you.
So... Which RPG are you interested in?
Hi DarkSage! Considering your very detailed intro I think you may fit in here well but you do have to watch out for anything 'adult-ish' though as we do not allow that in this public forum. Is it that you plan to start your own Play By Post here?
Honestly, though a bit shallow perhaps, I've been looking for an outlet in order to create and guide some of my still somehwat more vague character concepts, and when I really think about it, more than anything, I'm looking for an audience rather than a game. I should probably just figure out how to blog. I have had my share of Dungeons & Dragons and game playing in general, so what I probably need is just a writer's circle to throw back and forth ideas and opinions, the reason I haven't approached any and have limited myself to rpg's being that I am very bad at taking criticism, I have an analytical mind and can look at it objectively and always respond calmly and politely, but I die a little inside at the slightest mention of inadequecy, I shy away even from the thought of receiving criticism, a fatal flaw for a writer to be sure. I should be looking for an underdog close-knit writer's circle. Darn, I only figure these things out when I type them...
I suppose if I were to stop rambling and pose a question... Do you have any writer's circles? I cannot gaurantee my active participation either... I have limited access to the nets. However, when I can post, I always make it meaningful.
I think I understand what you are saying. We have some options:
The first we have is the Member Wars board. In this board GMs create their own RPGs and ask people to join in and play them.
The second option is the RPG Reviews board. This is where you start a thread with your ideas and then ask for help, ideas or thoughts.
The third option is a blog, we do have blogs here for members with a higher post count.
Last suggestion is we have a writers section but I think the RPG Reviews board might be best for you. Check it here: Source 4
Welcome to the site, DarkSage. I myself am a novice writer, but I can't create my own world just yet. I like to role play, because I've noticed that it has helped me become a significantly better writer. Unlike you, I like to receive criticism, because it also helps me get better. I don't blog, and really don't understand the concept of it, so I'm no help there.
I hope you find what you are looking for, and I wish you the best of luck on getting your books published.
