No this is not part of the rules, but you know... it is nice to think about putting at least some of them into practise

Community Etiquette

Community Etiquette

There are some points that the Architect has asked for me to mention that would be a great help in the cause of the Community. These are NOT rules or policies (you will not be asked to abide by them), but if you would consider them during your actions here then it will benefit all.

1. If you want to start several new topics then please reply to several of the threads located in Zero Replies.
Reason: It keeps the Zero Replies section from having an excessive number of unanswered threads. If Zero Replies is more than one page long then usually there will be no Contests since we do not want to add to the already heavy build up of posts.

2. If you come across a post that has a lot of errors, bad code or bad content then use the 'Report Button' rather than Email the Administrator directly.
Reason: When you click the 'Report Button' - the link to the thread, your name and any comments you wish to add are available on an easy to use form that goes to the Moderator in charge of that particular Board.

3. If you refer anyone here, please indicate to them that we are strict in the rules and that they can be deleted if they continually break them. At best, do not invite anyone that you feel will not be able to abide by the rules here.
Reason: Saves you and the person a lot of embarrassment.

4. Update your profile to reflect who you are and not a fantasy
Reason: You are more credible in what you say if you look like a real person and not a 'cartoon' character.

5. Do not intimidate other members because you have a higher status, award or upgraded account.
Reason: It does not really help users to participate more, but in fact makes them feel either unrewarded for their effort and / or inadequate.

6. Demanding something because you are a 'paying' member
Reason: Keep in mind that this site is only ONE - yes, I repeat ONE site out of HUNDREDS that we maintain. It is also important to mention that members who upgraded / bought FP their account did NOT buy features or their upgraded membership as one buys a product in a store, but instead donated and in return as a gift we allow you added features. There is no way that the number of donations we receive could EVER pay for the AMOUNT of work that goes into this community - please be understanding of that. We do this mostly because we love doing it and you will be attended in good speed based on our work load.

7. Being critics of the Moderators (also called, 'Mods')
Reason: We have some of the most experienced professional Moderators I have seen in any forum. They are professionals in their own employ and the way they attend to members here and posts also reflect their veteran discussion skills. They are not being paid, they are giving their own time and service for FREE! The next time you wish to discredit them - think about when last you did something for free to someone that was bad talking you.

Sending Content From Here

Many Members become excited about the content they find here and immediately copy text to their Emails and send it to their associates, friends and family. However, wouldn't it be better to instead of sending the text you send them a link - just a link - so they can come to the Community and read it here?

This helps three things:

1. You do not overstep, or risk overstepping any copyrights.
2. The person you are referring can see the text / content in its original format.
3. Who knows if they may not join the Community and end up being a vibrant poster.

Thank you for your co-operation.
