As things are going, it is fairly inevitable that humanity will change drastically in the coming centuries, most likely with a little deliberate gene tweaking to help it along.
If people like, we can have a discussion elsewhere on the morality and ramifications of this probable trend, what I am interested in discussing here are things that people would like to see, if such changes could be made without notable consequence.
To guide this along, I'd like to divide suggestions into two categories. Overt changes, things that would obviously differentiate one human from another to the naked eye, such as wings. Or covert changes, things that would require investigation to be sure are present at all.
My initial suggestions:
Overt- A shift to limb design. I propose a set of four arms. The upper pair built for strength and leverage, the smaller lower pair for delicacy and fine tasks. The standard set has a decent compromise between the two needs, but fall short in several situations.
Covert- Repurpose the appendix from its current lack of function to thoroughly regulate metabolism and diet. People crave too much of the wrong things to remain healthy in today's environment. It should not take effort and considerable willpower to modify that behavior.
I'm in for this discussion!
Overt - Adaptive skin that will change according to the environment, going white to reflect heat, black to absorb, green to produce energy, sealed to protect in vacuum, osmotic to absorb oxygen from water, etc. And rapid self-repair.
Covert - Stem Cell production to heal any internal degradation or damage, aided by nanotech to accelerate it's effectiveness.
Side note - the appendix has been found to not be a useless organ - it is the liver's library, containing samples of all the vaccines, viruses and such that the body has encountered and successfully survived to give the resistance against re-infection.
