Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington's year dug in with the Second Platoon in one of Afghanistan's most strategically crucial valleys reveals extraordinary insight into the surreal combination of back breaking labor, deadly firefights, and camaraderie as the soldiers painfully push back the Taliban.
This is a great war documentary. If you are thinking about joining the US military and want to know what you are going to be facing then this is the film to watch. Restrepo covers the push by US military to secure an area aggressively defended by the Taliban. What is more is in addition to fighting the enemy they have to build an outpost at the same time. In the process they lose some men. You are shown what daily life is like, how they get along and most of all their family like atmosphere created as they have no one else but each other to hold on to in the Afghan mountains.
