Fion scratched his head.
"If I understand things, our need is for speed.
"So how is borrowing, as you put it, a single horse and a cart going to speed our journey"?
"And if I am not mistaken horse stealing is a hanging offense.
"So if I'm going to run the risk of being hung, I believe I'd as soon have me sword near at hand.
"But that brings up another problem. If we're going to steal from these people, how then are we going to return and look them in the eye?
"Better yet, how are we going to return and avoid having to kill them to avoid being hung?"
The reason that I suggest the horse and cart, is that it can carry what we cannot. Â Also it can carry us and will move faster than we can on foot. Â If you would prefer we could try and borrow these things honestly and see if someone is willing to let us have them for this journey, but I do not believe that the people of this village are so trusting. Â
If everyone would rather go now and go on foot say aye. Â I'm just trying to find a way to make haste to the mountains. Â
As leader I'll take into consideration everyones ideas and opinions and then make the decision. Â
I'm a thief what can I say. Â The honest way isn't always my way, and I figure if we are borrowing from the people of the village to bring something back that will somehow benefit the village, it's a small price for them to pay.
We can try and rely on the village people for help if you wish. Perhaps there is some soul who is in a generous mood.
I agree with Fion. Are you all sure you can steal the horse and cart without any problems? we cannot risk to be hung. Do you all realize that if we are discovered we will have to kill?.
Now, what I don't understand is if you all want to steal horses why we need the cart for? (I know, to carry the stuff) but in an event that they follow us the cart will not go faster than the horse itself!.
We have to decide quick. Personally I think we should find a shelter somewhere, or go back to the village to get some horses. We need to get also some food. BUT I do think we should carry some of our weapons with us, we cannot take risks. Eve though in the village are only old men, we don't know if something unexpected could happen.
BTW, is it to naive to think that we may try to ask some horses to a friendly villager?.
This is Stranger, not Fion talking.
One thing that would help here is find out how much money we have in the first place.
I have zero, as it took that much to get basic equipment to start the game.
A horse, without tack, is 52 GP. I don't remember what a cart is. Maybe GM needs to rethink the "starting gold" parameters.
Horse and cart seems most efficient, because of the ladies in the party. Fion is a warrior and can travel on foot as fast as a horse and cart.
I don't know about our thief buddies.
Having the entire party mounted will change the entire combat paramaters for both us and the GM.
How will Mages cast spells while mounted? You won't. You will have to dismount.
On the other hand, having Fion on a horse is going to drive the GM crazy, unless he relies totally on his computer-generated thing, at which point I assure you Stranger is going to start screaming bloody murder.
Also, we need for the Mages to give us a rundown of just what spells they can employ. We need to know what you can do now, before we get into combat, so we can plan around it. We MUST have a strategy.
Who among us uses a bow? Fion does, for one. Who else? We need a strategy for "artillery vs hand-to hand" preset options.
To the other non-mages. Folks, a Mage, if you use him/her right, is like having a Patriot missle at your disposal. But we warriors and thieves must have one top priority. PROTECT YOUR MAGE!!!
You keep the enemy away from the Mage, and if he/she has decent spells you will take out your enemy without taking much damage.
Mages- How good are you? What spells do you have? Let's talk about this now!!! The old man will have to wait and gripe. Look at you spells, lay them out for us and let's talk about how to frustrate our enemy.
It will be harder for only two thieves and a warrior to steal six horses instead of one or two and easier to get caught stealing that many so that is why I suggest only one, maybe two and a cart. Two people to a horse and one on foot, namely Fion since he is a warrior and could probably keep up a good jogging pace.
Since the magicians are at level zero, I don't think they have many spells. That's a good question to ask the GM, but I think it is listed in the spell casting thread.
What Kagan needs now is a final agreement of everyone.
1. Steal one horse and a cart
2. Steal two horses
3. Ask a kindly villager or two to lend the party a horse or two
and maybe a cart.
4. Go on foot and leave immediately
5. Go on foot but wait until the storm passes.
Kagan is a thief and in fighting only has a dagger and a grappling hook as a weapon. She can also use her spikes as weapons. She obviously will be fighting on the ground and protect the magicians. Kagan is not very strong, so she needs a horse and she is more stealthy and good at hiding and sneaking about. She is good at sneaking up behind people and making herself unseen to the enemy. When a battle starts she more than likely try to conceal herself where possible, in the woods. In the open it will be very difficult for her to use her tactics because there will be no place to hide herself, so she will have to use her wits to outmaneuver the enemyand if the enemy is a warrior this may be difficult.
Well. Let us all come to an agreement upon the subject of our transportation. Kagan does not have any money. She is absolutely broke, so she is resorting to theft for the extra things that she needs.
Also the thieves can set traps, as they are skilled in being able to disarm them.
