Marvel or DC Comics
Which one do you prefer? Marvel or DC Comics? What's the difference? Well, DC comics give you Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. Marvel gives you Hulk, Fantastic Four, Spider Man, etc. If you notice, on the Justice League you never see Marval and DC Comic characters mix.
The only difference I've seen between the two...DC was more tame and semi-family oriented, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern. Marvel came out wanting to be the new "edge". X-Men, X-Force, New Mutants etc.
Personally I like both. I tend to lean on the team comics. Legion of Super Heroes, X-Men, New Mutants, JLA, etc.
Justice League is strictly DC...but if you want to see both comics go head to head, try the Amalgam series. Both worlds come crashing together and it's a face to face match. After that series there one called access were they are brought together. Also some spin off comics of what life would be like if they combined teams and people together (i.e. Storm and Wonder Woman as one, Jubilee and Robin, Wolverine and Batman...you get the picture.) But if you like comics, I strongly recommend those.
Definitely DC for me. I like my heroes to be more powerful, and on the whole DC creates more powerful heroes than Marvel. Batman is perhaps the exception to the rule, but I've always found the Dark Knight to be fascinating psychologically. And while he's not physically powerful compared to most ( a combat between Batman and the Terminator would be most interesting), he has probably the keenest mind and the broadest array of talents of any DC character.
But anyway, I gave up on collecting comics many years ago, because they're too expensive. When I first began collecting comics they were 12 cents each. Now they're up to a $1.75, which I feel is ridiculous. But I'm not above paying $6.95 for a comic book inspired novel. Its a matter of entertainment value. A $1.75 comic book is good for 15 minutes of entertainment, while an X-Men or Spiderman novel might be good for ten hours of reading.
I do roleplay many superhero games. At the moment I'm playing a pacifistic character in an Aberrent game, and I'm GMing a comic genre super hero game I titled "Super Heroes do the Darndest Things", using an easy homebrew system developed by a roleplaying friend nicknamed 'Snowflake'. I needed to add a couple rules to complete the game system so it wouldn't cripple characters with good concepts. But overall its ben easy to run and arbitrate, and since its comic genre its more important that the game is funny, than that the heroes are constantly saving the city. Since the begining of August 2003 we've amassed 400 messages. I would like to see it more active, but I don't want to pressure any of my players in to quitting.
Marvel has always been my favorite. I like the Avengers the best because they were the first comic I ever read and plus I just like Captin America. I also like Spiderman and the X-Men out of Marvel.
DC is cool too but it doesent come close to Marvel. Ide say Batman and JLA are the best ones from them.
I prefer DC universe ,i've find them more mature in their story.
I have always preferred Marvel to DC (though not by a wide margin). Nowadays, I can barely read a Marvel comic. My comic purchases used to be Marvel/DC - 60/40. Now it is Marvel/DC - 1/99. For me Marvel has pretty much hit bottom. Spider-Man is my absolute favorite character, but I can't enjoy any of the 30 titles he appears in every month. Spider-Man, along with every other Marvel superhero is almost like a completely different character now. DC on the otherhand, while not completely innocent of ruining it's characters still offer old school goodness in Teen Titans, JSA, JLA, Doom Patrol, The Flash, and more recently Green Lantern: Rebirth. DC also offers Astro City and Planetary through its Wildstorm imprint.
