Seeing Greaves displeasure causes you to move from the area around his hut. You decide to visit Shadow to see how he is doing. At Shadow's home you find him the same, as it has only been a couple of hours in all since you left his home this morning. He is annoyed that you keep disturbing him and he wishes to rest. You give some gestures about your current task and plan, but he seems uninterested as he is dealing with his own adventure at the moment. You sit around his table. You wished you had black clothes to be more hidden at night, but you figure that your clothes are already dark enough even if not black.
Medusa asks how trained her dog is. Amaris explains that IO is getting along, but because she only purchased it a couple of days ago, it is very hard for the dog to learn all at once. Amaris recommends that after about two weeks the dog will know some tricks and after a couple of months even more. She then goes into technicalities about the dog's breed and how because it is just a stray it cannot learn as fast as other breeds. Nick starts to become bored from the theories on dogs and makes hand movements guesturing to Medusa to carry on with the plan. Amaris looks over with a sly eye at Nicks rudeness. Nick smirks. Medusa then asks if the dog will be able to at least warn of danger, to which Amaris responds positively and adds,
"But he is most likely to run than to attack"
Medusa shakes her head in agreement and then says, we shall travel by night. Do we wait until night is upon us to leave the village, or do we leave now and get an early start? Nick instead of answering, asks...
"How long will it take us to walk 150 miles?"
Medusa thinks for a moment and then looking at Amaris' eyes for agreement says, "Maybe two days if we are walking fast, longer if we get tired or something stops us."
Nick then explains how he hates to walk, and carrying all that stuff will be burdensome. The women of the party snarl at Nick and tell him to basically find his manhood. Nick sinks in his seat and shakes his head. Nick then says,
"So what now boss?"
GM: It is now 8:00am. Decide when you want to leave and any other plans you may have.
It's 8:30am
You open your rations hoping to nibble, but you become overwhelmed with the hunger of not eatting in awhile so you each down 1 ration each.
(This has been subtracted from your equipment and will not show on your profile.)
Nick burps loud enough to cause both Shadow and Amaris' dog to start barking. Amaris quickly gets IO to be quiet, but Shadow's dog is now uptight. Nick throws him a morsel to keep him quiet while Shadow mumbles for you to leave his home because he wants to rest.
Knowing that you have overspent your invitation in Shadow's home you begin your journey towards the area Greave's indicated as Death's Mouth.
The first few miles are easy, you cover up to twenty, but as you reach thirty miles you are very fatigued. You stop to rest. The day is still bright. You are more or less in the open, walking under trees for shade where possible. Nothing seems out of the ordinary.
After a short rest you restart your travel.
It is now 5:00pm
The sun is setting. It forms a briliant red glow across the horizon. You have accomplished thirty-five miles so far and your feet are hurting you. Nick however looks like he could take on thirty-five more easily and finds that the women of the group walk slow.
After a bit of walking you start to be weary of the terrain, it is unfamiliar to you and it is getting dark. Medusa talks to the party about the best place to camp. In the area are some open grassy plains, and small pockets of trees. This goes on for miles as far as you can tell.
It's now 6:00pm
In all you cover forty miles today. You know you could have covered more, but with so much equipment and an average constitution the women of the group just could not give more. You will have about one hundred and ten more miles based on Greaves estimates (map) and start to wonder why no one decided to pool their gold towards buying a donkey, horse, cart or something. You look around to find a place to camp. You will need to rest well for tomorrow's journey.
GM: Decide where you will camp. Grassy plains in the open or find a pocket of trees. Also decide if you light a fire. It gets chilly late at night. Decide when you will start your journey again (exact time).
Its now 6:10pm
You are looking for somewhere to camp via a good view standing on a small hill. Nick puts the equipment on the ground and folds his arms waiting realising his fate is in the hands of Amaris and Medusa. In the distance you hear the howls of wolves.
Amaris spots an area that seems to have enough trees to give a temporary abode. You walk over to that place and begin setting up camp by clearing the area of dead branches, big stones, etc. The night sky is clear, the stars are out twinkling as the sun gives up its last speck of light. The moons are coming up and you hear the sounds of wolves even more intensely than before. Nick takes out some of his flint and starts to make a fire. It is easy for him to do so being a blacksmith, having worked with and close to fire. Amaris sets up her tent while Nick pulls his cloak over his huge shoulders and on to his chest so as to make a blanket. Medusa scans the area. As time passes you drink and finish the last of the ration you started this morning. Your minds start to wonder on the last time you ate a good meal and you wish you could be back in your own hut. IO sniffs around the camp but does not venture to far as Amaris calls her to stay.
Two hours pass...
After some light humor and discussion all of you become tired, Amaris and Medusa rest in the tent while Nick stays seated on a log watching the fire. Nick occassionally takes a walk around the camp, looking into the woods for any movement, but he really cannot see anything except for what the moons shine their light on.
An hour passes - It is now 9:00pm
Amaris and Medusa are now sleeping. Nick is almost nodding off, but he hears some howls in the distance that makes him alert. IO jumps up from a sleeping position and perks her ears up. She nods her hear from right to left trying to asertain the sounds. Nick watches IO and smiles.
Suddenly, with one quick leap IO darts off into the dark in the direction of where some howling sounds were coming from. Nick jumps up and shouts for IO to come back, but IO pays no attention and speeds into the darkness. Nick becomes concerned and walks a bit away from the camp but realises it is really to dark to see anything. He tries to listen for IO but hears nothing. He returns to camp thinking maybe IO saw a rabbit or something and will come back soon.
It is now 10:00pm
Nick is falling to sleep on himself and decides to wake up Amaris to take over watch. Amaris gets up grumbling and noticing IO is not near her ten asks for her. Nick explains what happens and says,
"She will be back"
Amaris becomes concerned as she rubs her hands near the fire. The howling sounds are coming closer now and Amaris stands up with her staff in hand. They are getting so close now that you can actually hear the snarl of a wolf or two not far away. Amaris is now concerned and calls,
"IO?" There is no response. Amaris spins around in all directions. She starts to see eyes watching her from a patch of woods about fifty feet away. An electric thrill seems to go through her body as she sees eyes of wolves watching her.
It is now 11:00pm
GM: Amaris is awake and the others asleep, after making a decision Amaris must go directly to Party Order thread and say what she wants to do... if anything at all. If Amaris does not want to do anything, just say so in the Party Order thread. (There is no need to post this in the camp thread as the others are sleeping and cannot give nay input).
Amaris wishes that wolves were like dogs, but unfortunately none of her animal trainer skills would work to tame a dozen howls from the woods nearby. Amaris feels that the wolves will notice her if she tries to keep still and use her cloak as a guise in the darkness.
A minute or so passes and despite Amaris' tactics, she becomes dismayed of the fact that the wolves are now starting to move closer to where she is standing... their eyes grow bigger and bigger as they come within 40 feet... 30 feet... 25 feet... they stoop their head and have a stance ready to spring in your direction. Amaris' heart pumps in quick time as the wolves saliva drolls from their jaw, she thinks to herself that wolves have a great sense of smell and can track you no matter if you hide. Amaris now whispers,
"Medusa?", "Nick?".... and then she says a bit louder...
"Medusa!", Nick!".... a voice replies, "Right behind you boss" and without looking Amaris is reassured by Nick's voice.
Suddenly, a large wolf leaps and comes toward Amaris...
Battle now starts - everything conducted here is generated via a program I use plus your stats.
1. Amaris has time to react first - she fires an arrow from a short bow and hits the wolf just under its' head, it falls to the ground motionless.
2. Another wolf leaps towards Nick (same time as the one that attacked Amaris), he reacts long before the wolf could even reach him... "swish". In one quick move of Nick's arm he slices a wolf in half splattering some of the wolf's digestive system on to the ground and Amaris.
3. "Yuk" says Amaris as Medusa is now starting to awake out of the tent.
4. Another wolf makes an attempt at Nick, but Nick reacts like lightning, his sword cuts through the belly of a wolf just as it leaps towards his neck. It falls howling and then dies.
Battle Over
Medusa is now up, still trying to get herself together, wondering what is going on, she is too frail of body to move any faster. Nick swings around looking for more wolves. Amaris looks over at Nick and the excited expression on his face, he seemed to actually enjoy that. Amaris is ready with another arrow, but as she looks around she notices the rest of the pack have left. The eyes that were watching you now disappear. You still look around, then standing as still as possible you listen intently to every sound you can hear, but nothing more that the crackling of your small fire can be heard.
All of you are now up. Amaris tries to clean herself, Medusa still tries to wake up by washing her face using water from one of the waterskins and Nick is busy studying his sword and how the blood dries slowly to it.
GM: Its now 11:30pm, you all feel drained, such a long walk, poor food, hardly any sleep and now you have been attacked. Amaris and Nick gain experience. Decide what you want to do now. Medusa now writes in party order thread after discussion in the camp.
Amaris' face describes her disgust in cleaning the wolf's blood and guts from off her clothes. She finds it even more disgusting pulling an arrow out from the chest of the wolf she killed. Nick watches her with an amused expression. Medusa is still looking around while rubbing her eyes. Medusa requests for Nick to bury the wolves, he does so, digging one pit around 4' deep and then throwing all the wolves in one heap. He fills in the dirt, jumps on the the soil making it as flat as he can, and then smooths out the area. Medusa thinks to herself that anyone can know they were there, but at least the vultures will not have a 'field day'.
All of you are good and tired, Amaris reherses in her mind how she shot the wolf with her arrow. Thoughts of the wolf's eyes watching her just before death stays prominent in her forehead. It was her first kill, and a creature of the wild. She never liked taking the life of such creatures, and experiences a moment of regret.
Nick spins his sword, twirling it like a stick. He is elated at how quickly he disabled the wolves in quick sweeping blows. He mimics the movements over and over as though he were trying to perfect it.
All of you become tired as time passes. You watch the stars and moons. The area is quiet. You see no sign of IO. Amaris becomes weary of the fact that the wolves may have used him as dinner. Her previous sympathy for the wolf slain by her arrow now seems to turn into revenge.
The night passes....
It's now 6:00am
You feel uncomfortable, having a quick wash would do well now, but you know time is of the essence and you all pack your belongings, put out the fire and begin your trek towards Death's Mouth.
You walk all day, you are sweaty and stink. You have covered 80 miles today, having quickened your march and started earlier. You need to wash yourselves and possibly change your clothes? You begin to think what extra clothes you brought with you.
You look for somewhere near that has water. You find a small river fed by a small waterfall running off a hill. The area around is more or less the same as your last camp site, but the mountains that you must find are now visible in the distance. You are sure that you can be there  by morning. You are also very hungry.
It's now 6:00pm
GM: Decide what you wish to do now.
You make a camp similar to the one you made last night. Amaris checks the river for fish. There are some small ones, not plenty, but enough for a small meal. Nick and Amaris go into the water to round up some fish. Nick has the most success because of his great speed. It is getting dark and you only have time to catch four small fish. (Number generated by program) Medusa cleans the fish, picks some herbs she is familar with for taste and makes a good meal using the fish and greens she found near the brook. You feel happy to get some meat in your system, afterall what kind of warrior survives on dry rations.
Amaris ponders the lost of IO. She reasures herself that she can do better at putting such dogs on a leash and tie them to a tree. Training such stray dogs before she brings them on adventures will take time.
Medusa inspects her feet. They are very sore form the long travel. Her frail body is not up to such tasks. She ponders getting a horse if she comes into a lot of loot. Nick uses a sharpening stone to make the edge of his sword as deadly as possible.
You each take turn at night watching, listening, and wondering if wolves will attack you, but you are suprised that the night passes quickly and without event.
It is 6:00am
In the morning, Medusa reminds everyone to fill their skins with water. You try to catch some more fish... you once again make a meal with four of them. You begin your travells again. You see the mountains in the distance. Around you the woods are getting more and more sparse and you are in a deseret like plain. The ground beneath you is rocky and there is no shade. The sun is in its' splendor and already the day seems hot.
You walk about twenty miles when you see a small caravan in the distance (about half a mile). You squint your eyes while placing your hand to your forehead as a soldier would salute a captain. At this distance you can make out about six persons with a wagon drawn by an ox. They are coming straight towards you. You stop and look at each other. You wait a bit to see if they continue towards you and what they look like. You strain your eyes some more and notice that these humanoid shapes are dressed in clothes and cloaks. In their hands they each carry a staff. They have the appearence of nomads and you can tell they know of your presence.
GM: What do you wish to do now?
You continue to walk towards these strangers and they do likewise towards you. As you get closer you can now make a better assertation of what they are about. You are about 300 feet away from them.
The ox pulls a small wagoon with items in the back covered by a large dark piece of cloth. The person leading the ox wears a cloak with a hood that covers his face partially so you cannot see his eyes, in his/her hand is a staff made from a tree branch. The other five in the group seem more or less the same and they seem to be out fitted with leather boots and armor. This armor has a rough appearance and you see miniature skulls dangling from the necks of one or two of the travellers. They carry small shields painted with symbols and dented so you kno they have seen battle at some period. You do not see any weapons drawn, but you suppose that they are armed.
As they approach even closer you recognise that the person leading the ox does not look up at all to acknowledge your approach. Four in the group each walk close to the wagoon with one hand resting on the wooden brace of the cart as though to steady it while their other hand dangles at their side, swaying in the motion of their walk. The last individual is behind the wagon, but you really cannot see him/her too well.
Medusa and Amaris feels the most suspicious, but say nothing and try not to look at each other. At about 30 feet the person leading the ox stops it and everyone else in their group. They stand for awhile. Nick looks at Medusa and Amaris and says,
"What they want boss?"
Medusa shrugs her shoulders and then shouts out to the strangers,
"Hail there, where ye be from?"
The cloaked figure stands by his ox without motion, so do the others, they are not moving. You pause awhile to see if anything changes, but you cannot tell even if there is an expression on their face because of their hoods. Amaris and Medusa look at each other through the corner of their eyes. You feel chilled about this situation.
GM: What do you want to do now?
