With Nick's statement everyone starts to check their hunger pangs and you realise that your food rations is less than desirable. You complain at your ill luck to be stuck at what is now 8:30pm at night with no market open. Everyone starts to look at Shadow's cupboard door. Shadow noticing this says...
"Don't even bother to look, afterall it seems like I was the only one smart enough to bring rations and skins for 3 days. Supposed we could not come back to the village?"
(Everyone looks at each other because of Shadow's audacity to be so bold with his own preparedness)
Shadow continues... "Thought you would eat my food instead?"
By now the room is hot, the two women of the group start to squabble with Shadow while Nick is still looking at the bag on the table with cakes.
Shadow realising he is entering warm waters backsoff by saying, "Okay, sorry about that, this is frustrating, we need to stop our fidgeting and make a decision that will govern our movements so we are not so indecisive and unplanned and unprepared and frustrated and..."
Before Shadow could say another word... Nick has enough time to eat one of the cakes happily.
You all are now watching Nick thinking 'will he ever learn'. Nick seeing himself caught in the act puts the bag back on the table, rubs his stomach and says,
"Yummmm, taste good"
GM: It is now 9:00pm
Shadow's dog is becoming impatient as he puts his paws on the table to see if his teeth can reach the cakes. Nick becomes jealous and uses it as an excuse to pick up the cakes again. Down goes another cake in one gulp as Nick spins round, puts his back to the group, acts like he is trying to fix his clothes and gulps the last piece.
"Yummm... those cakes good, all gone, good snack boss"
It's now 9:00pm
Small talk now ensues the evening as various things are discussed with no real plan or objective being decided by Shadow. Everyone begins to have thoughts about the way the group is being lead, but no one is saying anything.

Amaris kicks in conversation about Greaves' door and how it tried to enclose herself and Medusa in the hut. Everyone starts to picture the door in their mind, wondering the how and why of the night's events.
Time is once again going by and you each realise that time management will be needed if you are to ever go into the world of adventure. You shrug off your procrastination as newness and begin to talk again...
GM: It is now 10:00pm. At this hour no one is about the streets of the Village and if anyone is seen they are usually picked up by the guards.
Its getting late and everyone frustrated. Shadow says,
"You know what I feel sick (he places his hand on his forehead with the intention of feeling how warm he is), it might be the cold. I think you better let me rest this one through."
Amaris looks over at Medusa and Nick and everyone agrees. Talk now brews between the new party while Shadow withdraws to his room to rest on his rather small makeshift bed. Nick looks over at Shadow and asks,
"Boss, need something? Want some cake, I mean food?"
Shadow turns his head from left to right in slow motion and closes his bedroom door after allowing his dog to enter. All of you think that maybe its all just been too much for Shadow, or something else is happening with him, but whichever it is you know you do not have much time to waste. Medusa starts,
"Okay I believe I will run this party now."
Amaris looks over at Medusa with no expression and says nothing while Nick says,
"You are my boss now, what do we do now boss?"
Before Medusa can answer Amaris blurts out,
"Look, we are taking too long, let's get some rest and in the morning I need to get some items. I am sure you people do too."
Medusa nods in agreement and says, "Okay, lets take a quick rest here, and at the break of dawn head over to the market to get what you (looking at Amaris) need. After this we shall return to the herbalist to find out about Greaves. We can also check on Shadow and see what is wrong with him"
Medus goes on to explain that because of the late hour it may be more wise to just stay there and rest rather than return to your homes. Everyone looks for a place to sit and rest in Shadow's already cramped quaters. You now start to look at Shadow's home more closely and realise it looks similar to your own.
Shadow's hut is wooden, with no decor at all and is joined closely with other huts on either side. It is typical of the poor class, small, two rooms and free of basic items save those necessary for the routines of life. Where you rest is ten feet by 10 feet and you use your equipment as a pillow.
Medusa starts to think. Can we accomplish anything with such a small group? She begins planning new party order as the night passes...
GM: With no disagreements, Medusa is the new leader of this party. Medusa must now plan a [glow=gold,2,300]new[/glow] party structure similar to the one Shadow gave in his post in the Party Order thread. (Make sure to see the revised questions required).
After this is done dawn will break and the story continues.
During the night Shadow starts to develop a bad cough. One or two times a member of the party gets up to check on him. He seems to have the cold and one of you boil some herb tea for him and place a wet cloth on his head. He seems strong enough to handle it and with some rest and proper food he will recover. You realize that he will not be able to continue with you tomorrow.
GM: Shadow is no longer in this game. Since he is at home already, we will assume he will always be there until he recovers. Your party is now reduced to three. Plan to suit.
It's 5:00am
You arise to the breaking sunlight through Shadow's window. The added sound of animals moving and people already working around their homes adds to your now awakened sense of the new day.
Medusa checks on Shadow, he is asleep. She then checks the rest of his home to ensure everything is in order. Medusa then looks at Nick and Amaris,
"Let us go quickly to the market and see what we can get at this hour, if not we can head to the herbalist"
With that statement everyone gathers their items and makes their way out of Shadow's home.
It is a bright day, the sun is now breaking over the distant horizon in the East. The skys are a clear blue and you know it is a good day for new exploration. You quickly think about your next move.
At the Market
Some things are open, but most people are only now setting up. From experience you know that by 6:00am the market is ready for its customers so you all decide to go to the herbalist.
At the Herbalist
Gren, the herbalist is more or less to herself. She is an old woman, but not faint, she is quick in conversation and well in constitution. She is liked a lot by the villagers because of her many potent elixirs and potions. Her place is already open. She sees you coming and meets you at the door.
"Thanks ye folks for bring Greaves here, he is a stubborn man, but was in bad shape. Seemed like he was cut with an instrument of poison, but luckily for him you found him. Here I have something for ye sacks, you can call it a 'thank you' from Greaves." (Gren then goes over to a table in the corner of her establishment, where on the top of it lay what seems to be a sack full of items. She takes it up with caution and brings it over to you slowly) She continues,
"Here take this, it is from Greaves, he says he has work for you to do. Make sure to follow the instructions within the bag, he made me write it out for ye all."
In speaking more with Gren you learn that Greaves left before day break. He said he would go to the Elders' home and then back to his hut. You explain how you found him and the way he treated you and Gren assures you that it is his 'normal' personality. She then ends,
"You are young lad and lassies, but you will soon learn that this Village is not just a bunch of old people, why were it not for us, this Village would long be overrun with all kinds of outsiders and bandits." (Gren then tells you she has to go back to work and will bid you fearwell).
You take the sack of items and bid Gren farewell. Anxious to know what is inside you open the sack while heading back to the market. In the sack you find the following:
1. Simple Map
2. Bottle of Ink and feather in a leather case
3. 15 gold pieces
4. A note that says, "Meet Greaves at his hut 7:00am sharp"
5. A gold ring with strange enscriptions engraven on it
6. 4 small bottles of strength tonic (a mixture of herbs, good for long periods of bad eatting)
7. String of garlic buds
GM: You will now need to decide who will carry the sack of items/if you will divide the items among you then who will hold which/or whatever else you decide to do with the items. Your characters are now at the market. Everyone who wants to buy items, may now do so. Please email me with your requests. Medusa will need to state what you are going to do after purchasing your equipment from the market. It is now 6:15am.
Medusa shares out the items to each person in the group in the following manner;
Nick is given a note that says, "Meet Greaves at his hut 7:00am sharp" and a string of garlic buds. Medusa is afraid to give him much more, being unsure what he would do with it. Amaris is given a bottle of Ink and feather in a leather case and the gold ring with strange enscriptions engraven on it. Medusa takes everything else. Medusa is starting to feel burdened by the amount of items she is carrying. Nick looks over at her wondering why she is trying to carry so much when he is there and able.
At the Market
Everyone buys items that they deem important. All save Nick, feel very encumbered and many in the village wonder if you are going to explore for gold. Some ask you casually, but you try not to entertain their questions by saying you are going camping or hunting.
At Shadow's Home
You visit Shadow, he is in the same condition that you left him in, afterall it has only been over an hour since you last seen him. He does not want to be disturbed and you let him be. Before leaving you sit at the table of Shadow and discuss your final plan. Medusa reasures everyone that they need to be courageous with Greaves when they meet him, but at the same time cautious. All of you agree and begin trying to stuff your equipment into sacks, and whatever way you can carry them including your hand. You realise with this much equipment you would have to drop all of it if you were ever expected to fight in a battle.
At Greaves Hut
6:45am
Medusa quickens her pace ahead of everyone, she wants to be 15 minutes early at the hut of Greaves to scan the area. She finds nothing unusual. Eventually Nick and Amaris also arrive and so all of you are there - the front door of Greaves (7:00am)
Before you can knock on the familiar door of Greaves' Hut it opens and there stands Greaves, well dressed and with a clever smile on his face. You are suprised by his demeanor which is very bright and positive. Greaves shakes all of your hands and then asks,
"Where is the man called, Shadow?"
Medusa explains that during the night he developed a bad cold and could not make it for this appointment. Greaves then looks from left to right just above your heads as though he were searching his mind and then says,
"Okay, here is what I have fer ye. The Elders of this village have a low budget and need some scouts to find and possibly bring back a scroll of great value. This scroll contains ancient runes that will help us in the work of making this place a great civilization." (Greaves then asks for the map you are carrying. He points to an area called, 'Death's Mouth' and then continues...) "We know that within this area is a cave guarded by what seems to be some sort of bandit group that have a tendency to dress in all black. We suspect they operate mostly at night, hide in dark places, always waiting to ambush and that it was my ill luck to be caught by them on the road to my home yesterday evening. I guess they fight dirty too since one of them nicked me with a bit poison. Anyways, we need that you enter this cave and get the scroll. I do not know where it is or what it looks like, but whatever you find bring it. I'll bet that this particular scroll will be kept in a safe place, well guarded."
You then ask Greaves some questions and find out the following points that may or may not be fact:
- The cave is not easily seen from the flats, it will be necessary to explore into the mountain
- The bandits may be skilled thieves, so expect traps
- Try not to enter the cave during the day, it is best to enter at night when they normally leave
_ Do not trust anyone that you meet, only follow Greaves directions
_ They wanted more skilled persons on this expedition, but the Elders budget would not allow it. Greaves spoke to the Elders about what you did for him and they decided that you could take up the task.
_ You should not tell anyone what you are looking for or what you did before or after the journey.
Greaves then looks at the three of you and says,
"You think just the three of you can handle this task at hand?"
Medusa looks over at Amaris and Nick and in a quick reply Medusa says, "Yes, of course"
Greaves, once again looks over your head looking left to right, searching his memory and continues...
"Right, do you have the ring?" (Medusa shows the ring to Greaves. Greaves takes the ring and with his index finger points to the strange markings engraven on it.
"You will know you have found the scroll, because it will contain similar, if not the same markings as on this ring." Greaves then leans over and looks at Medusa sternly, and then towards the rest of the party and says, "Don't you lose this ring!"
You nod in agreement looking straight back at Greaves having thoughts of... 'What does he think we are, a bunch of kids?' Greaves then continues...
"I expect that you will journey immediately and that you will not return to the Village until you have acquired the scroll. Return it here to me. I will be waiting. You should not be gone more than a few days for the most. Surely you want a reward for this or are ye the charitable types? (Greaves now holds his stomach, fixes his clothes and chuckles under his breath) Here is what I can do for ye... 50 gold pieces each and you can keep whatever of value you find in the cave, I think there might be something of value (shrugs his shoulders) in the cave. Consider the gold you received already as a security on your services."
Greaves then gives you his old tone and says, "Be on ye way already!" then he takes a step or to back into his hut while looking at you and his door closes with a hard thud behind him. Medusa raises an eyebrow and looks at Nick and Amaris. You wonder how Greaves seemed to have no hospitable words in his vocabulary and no care to even ask how Shadow was doing or 'thanks' for the other night. You step away from Greaves home and then form a small circle to discuss your next move.
GM: Decide what you want to do now. The journey to Death's Mouth is about 150 miles through mostly unfamiliar territory. This plan should be detailed, especially how you plan on looking for the cave. Remember every detail can mean the difference between the life and death of your character. [TIP] General decisions in specific situations gives room for the GM to do what he thinks your character will do, so the question is... how much control do you want the GM to have over your character? The answer should be 'none'. The more you state what your character will do, the less chance the GM can make your character do something else. Medusa posts decision in Party Order thread after discussion in the camp.
As you stand outside Greaves' door planning...
(Greaves in his more appealing expression)
Greaves' door opens again and Greaves steps out as though he were chasing a rat out of his home. He points his finger at the three of you and says,
"Does it take the sun to rise and set for you to know where you are going and what you are doing?"
He then throws his hands in the air, turns around, enters his hut and his door closes behind him in a controlled manner. You now begin to believe that his door operates by some sort of special mechanism.
It is a beautiful day, the sun is hot, birds are flying high and singing in the trees.
It is now 7:30am
