Lawsuit filed against Florida's proposed "Religious Freedom" amendment

The Florida Education Association, and religious leaders filed a lawsuit Wednesday challenging a proposed constitutional amendment that would remove language from the Florida constitution banning public dollars for religious groups. The suit says removal of the language, known as the Blaine Amendment, makes it easier for taxpayer dollars to flow to parochial-school vouchers. Update: Hogan's deal will be worth $118,388, including a $95,789 salary. He will serve as the three-member commission's only full time member. All members were full time until this year, when two were reduced to part-time. Michele Bachmann making Friday stop in Jacksonville Beach

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is running for president, is coming to Jacksonville Beach Friday to speak at Angie's Subs, 1436 Beach Boulevard. The event is being hosted by the First Coast Tea Party and begins at 3:30 p.m. The group said in a news release that having the Minnesota Congresswoman in for the event does not constitute an endorsement. "We will invite any and all candidates running for office to appear at our events," read the release. "We want our members to hear from all of them and make informed decisions at the polls." Florida's prescription pill database starts today

After sparking a public tag-team match pitting Senate President Mike Haridopolos and Attorney General Pam Bondi against House Speaker Dean Cannon and Gov. Rick Scott, Florida's prescription pill database will officially take effect today.
Getting the database off the ground had been a priority for the Haridopolos-Bondi team during spring's legislative session, but was opposed team Scott-Cannon because they deemed it an invasion of privacy. Photos/Video

Rick Scott begins 'workday' at NAS Jax

Gov. Rick Scott started his day bright and early at NAS Jacksonville for his third "Let's Get to Work Day." Modeled after events held by former Gov. and U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, they feature Scott doing everyday jobs. Today he will be working the base's front gate, working on a engines, and doing a round with the drug sniffing dogs. His other workday events were at a Tampa-area donut shop, and working in the cafeteria at an Orange County school. Scott met with reporters before assuming his post at the front gate.
