Senate Redistricting Committee Chairman Don Gaetz, R ? Niceville, notified his chamber Wednesday that he will file an amendment by noon Saturday (St. Patrick?s Day) responding to the Supreme Court ruling eight newly drawn state Senate districts are illegal.

Senate redistricting maps subject of floor discussion today

The full Senate is discussing the redistricting maps that were passed out of committee Wednesday, and today's floor session has already seen a number of amendments.

The committee passed the redrawn districts 21-6 after a bingo-style lottery assigned which district races would be contested for two years or four years in this election cycle.

Poll shows Bill Nelson with lead over Connie Mack in Senate matchup

One day after a poll showing President Barack Obama with a growing lead in Florida, a survey by Quinnipiac University showed Bill Nelson with a similarly widening lead over Republican Connie Mack in a head-to-head U.S. Senate matchup.
Nelson leads Mack 44 percent to 36 percent among all voters; that compares to a 41-40 Nelson lead in a similar poll taken Jan. 11.

State ethics panel dismisses complaints against 2 Florida legislators

TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Ethics Commission has dismissed complaints against two Republican state lawmakers, Sen. Mike Fasano and Rep. Gary Aubuchon.
The panel announced on Wednesday that both cases were decided during a closed-door meeting Friday.
The commission ruled that Fasano would not have violated any ethics law even if it could be proven that he allegedly told a citizen his "bad mouthing" of Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco was "not good" for his business.
