Basis of the topic concerns Nude Modeling mostly which some refer to as 'Artistic Nude', but the person is still naked. It is covered here from the aspect of the professional model and not just the observer. For general discussion on Nude as an Art please see the Art Board (related links - top left)
NOTE: This was a big topic on here, but it was lost due to the transfer from one script to another. I have copied the most important points here: (Names in bold are current members)
AlaMoms: If you take classes to learn to be a model and act etc. Why do you have to take off your clothes to get a job? Is your talent not enough? And why would you do such a thing?
Doctor: AlaMoms, yes I totally agree with you. Talent should be enough to get a job as an actress and model. The world is becoming so corrupt that it seems that it doesn't matter anymore if you have talent or not. But I want to believe there is good people out there who still being honest and they will hire you for what you know.
TonyaWhite: Hi it is tonya again ok you can work on just your talent
some girls get into nudes for the money and to be able to keep working in modeling full time but there is some people out there that does hire you for one job then when you get there ,, your are told something else . so all the girl s watch out
be true to yourself and others
thanks tonya white
TracyDawn: Well I just wanted to say that if someone wants you to do nudes and you do not want to, Dont do it! There is no reason you shoould have to do something you dont want to do. I've noticed that alot of girls want to get into modeling and they dont know how, or they dont fit the criteria that some people are looking for, so they turn to nudes, because just about anyone can get a nude paying job,(excluding Playboy).. They think it will make them a famous model, but in my opinion doing something like that is hurting you. I am not saying there is anything wrong with nude photographs, but I am saying to limit yourself to only nudes, especially the explicit type ,that is not modeling to me. I see nothing wrong with artistic nudity, if the person wants to do it, to eachs own, but I say you do not have to do nudes to make it into modeling. Stay away from anyone that tells you otherwise..

SeanRyan: Ok, here's my two cents worth.....As a photographer who works most of the time with models and in some cases a certain aspect of nudity, I find there's nothing wrong with the naked body when it comes to (hopefully) creating beautiful and striking images.
However, I feel that nudity just for nudity's sake is pointless and ultimately brings rather empty results. If you look at some of the great pieces of art that have managed to captivate people's imaginations through history many of them have nudity and it has often resulted in responses in the positive and negative. I suppose that's human nature. But for the most part these pieces of art have endured because they possess something of human beauty.
Am I rambling yet...?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that gratuitous nudity doesn't really do anyone any good in the long run but creating work that can come alive with the natural grace that the human body possesses can't be a bad thing, can it? I suppose it's all relative. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say.
Ultimately for me it boils down to what makes a great image. As I've stated before on another thread, I for one always discuss as much as possible with the model ahead of time just so we know we're both on the same page. That way we both know what we're trying to achieve visually and are hopefully aiming for the same result.
Ok, I'm done rambling for now. Hopefully I'm making sense.

Thx for starting this topic again, Jb.
I did have a meeting with a model scout today and it left me rather disappointed. The meeting started off well, until they started asking me about whether I would consider doing nude photos. When I told them no, they even went so far as to offer more money, if I would change my mind. It sorta upset me that they made it sound like that was the only way to get into modeling. Which I know there has to be other ways to get into the business without having to take my clothes off.

Did you check with real model agencies around your area?. |
By the way, when you go on these interviews do you go with someone? It is always good to have someone with you. The whole idea that these people 'deal' in nude photography (even if they do not request it from you) makes my hair stand up. Don't let them give you that garbage talk about being professional and if the woman is nude or clothed it is all the same to them.
As a professional photographer whose cliental is 90% female, I have heard every horror story about shady photographers who tell females to take off their clothes for arts sake, but the photographer doesnt know the difference between a bus stop and an f stop! I have held bikini contests and it seems every goofball shows up! They have a business card BUT it isnt a photographers card. It normally says a completely different business, but yet they can get them in playboy,BECAUSE they have contacts! I have shot nudes and their isnt anything wrong with them, the problem is some people prey on the young lady who wants to live out her dream life as a model. I hung up a newspaper article in the Hooters here in Albuquerque that told about a Hooter girl on the east coast who was murdered by a loony posing as a photographer. There are lots of famous people who have posed nude, and it didnt hurt there careers. Its a call that you have to make as an individual, but sometimes you have to live with the consequences. Just think of all the girls in the GIRLS GONE WILD videos, those tapes will be around forever. What might have been a goog idea at the time, may haunt them thr rest of their lives!
