Isaiah

This Thread will be used to examine the Mormon interpretation for the word(s) / name(s) called "Isaiah" from the scriptures. What does Isaiah mean in the literal sense and in scripture as Mormons know it?

Mormon definition of Isaiah.

Isaiah in the Book of Mormon

Why do you think the Lord would instruct Nephi / Mormon to make Isaiah a part of the final plates making up the Book of Mormon if it was going to be part of the future Old Testament?

First thought, because I never really gave it much thought, is Because of how important the words of Isaiah are to not only the Nephites but to us today. That the Lord knew Nephi (And others) would teach us more, or give there view on the words of Isaiah. You can't really teach the words of Isaiah with out quoting them first. There was no way for Nephi to say, please refer to Isaiah chapter 53 versus 1-25. I'm going to give you my view of these.

Meaning you can't really get Nephi's interpretation of Isaiah with out quoting Isaiah.

Plus it helps us realize even more how important the words of Isaiah are! They are in our scriptures twice!

Comments: As I was contemplating about the question of Isaiah being the book of apart of the Book of Mormon it reminds me what God said "Great are the words of Isaiah".

Good comments. I would add that the Lord may have known that the book of Isaiah would come to us in an imperfect form, and wanted us to get a better translation of some of the more important parts.

Also, Nephi had been forbidden to write about certain things that he had seen in vision because the Lord wanted John the Revelator to write about them. It may be that Nephi thought to himself, "Hmmm. The Lord said that I couldn't write about those things myself, but He didn't say that I couldn't quote Isaiah."

Nephi said he choose to use Isaiah that his seed should learn from them for they are of great worth ("maybe the need for instruction is different for each generation '), he also wrote from scriptures that are not even found and not in the KJV or the 1611 KJV compare both to the BOM and somethings missing. ( revealed religion vr.s socialized religion ) my guess is that he saw the demise of the revealed gospel being replaced by a scriptures and preaching that call the truth a false doctrine.
