As we greet another New Year today, let us also give thanks for all the good fortune we received in the
past year.

We survived the destruction wrought by typhoons and other calamities, and with our fortitude, we are well on the way to rebuilding our communities.

We reaffirmed our democracy with our first ever automated elections — one that was not only quick and accurate, but also unprecedentedly peaceful.

We continued to enjoy successive quarters of economic growth, leading the way for the recovery in other parts of the world.
