What's Your Traditional New Year's Day Meal?

I was wondering what everyone's traditional New Year's Day meal is?

I'm actually going to be making a traditional New Year's Day meal. Just unsure of what all goes with it. It's been years since I've actually had a traditional meal on New Year's day. I know it has black-eyed peas and greens, but not sure of what else goes with it.

Growing up we had either Baked Ham, yams, scalloped potatoes, tiny peas and the leftover pickles and relishes from Christmas. OR Roast Beef, roasted potatoes, gravy, carrots, fried in butter parsnips.

This year my neighbors and I are doing what we think is a Norwegian Dinner. Lutefisk, Salmon (for me 'cause I don't know if the adult me will now like Lutefisk), boiled potatoes, green beans, Leftse, and Rommegrot (pudding).

If there are any Norwegian's out there ~ is this a Traditional New Year's Dinner?

Meal Day Years Traditional Whats

My traditional new year's meal was always ham. I don't know what I am doing this year. Probably nothing. I had ham for Christmas this year and got sick. Not from the ham, but you know how we end up associating stuff. So at the moment, I can't stomach the thought of ham. smile.gif

Meal Day Years Traditional Whats

I had no idea there was such a thing as a traditional New Year's meal? We always just nursed our hangovers in the morning with ice water and aspirin, and then ate chips and sub sandwiches or pizza and drank more beer while we watched football (yuck...!)

Maybe I can start a new tradition this year... hmmm...

Roz

Offtopic but,
(How many hours of my life did I waste drinking or getting over drinking? What an idiot....)

Roz, your post reminds me of my father's traditional New Year's Day breakfast. It was a beer, with a raw egg, tomato juice, tabasco, and salt & pepper. Supposed to the "hair of the dog that bit ya." :-)

Oh my gosh!!!, I am glad that I don't have to go to the bathroom after him! laugh.gif
Since I had this stomach virus, I plan to eat very light for New Year's Day. Maybe a soup or something.

An update on New Year's Dinner. The adult me still does not like Lutefisk. It tastes like it was cooked in non-lemon scented furniture polish. And the pudding wasn't all that great either. Though everyone else liked it and ate seconds. Guess if you like Lutefisk, then you will like Rommegrot. To me it tasted like wallpaper paste floating in a copious amount of clarified butter and topped with cinnamon and sugar. I really enjoyed my salmon though.
