My favorite RPG is "Might and Magic VI". I guess the two main reasons for that are:
- it was my first RPG
- the story was great and complete.
I played the series from VI to IX. In the last part they improved the graphic, but the storyline was weaker.
Number 2 is Morrowind. The world is amazing ... at night I like to watch the sky ... they did a great job there. Also I agree with glyphfury, regarding the creation of the character ant the good/bad options.
Finally, number 3 is Neverwinter Nights. Great story!
I have two loves in my life, in one hand, I have final fantasy VII. With it's great story line and extensive game-play duration I find it very hard to put down even after I have beaten it several times. In my other I have final fantasy IV, I must admit I am a sucker for older games. Especially after they have been remade so I can go back to them, get the guide, and find all of the items I find would have made my first time around sooooo much easier.
My favorite RPG would have to be The Legend of Dragoon. Though it is older now and the graphics aren't the best, it has a full, in-depth storyline and immersive gameplay. Though fighting is still turn based you actually have to pay attention and pull off the attacks, called additions. Example: You use an addition, you must hit the X button right when the larger square shrinks down to the same size as the smaller one. Since there are several of these in each attack, and the timing is always different, it can get very hard to pull off, especially if the enemy attempts to counter and you have to hit O instead of X. However I have played few console RPGs and so have not much to compare it against, but everything I can compare it against is blown away by it.
For a long time Daggerfall was my favorite RPG and the truth is I was never able to finish it. Recently my favorite has changed to the Baldurs gate series. I have always enjoyed the AD&D format and this was a game that was done very well and allows for repeatability.
Favourite RPG... Baldur's Gate, no doubts about it . It's the first real computer RPG game I've ever played and it was like love at first sight. Actually, I started with Baldur's Gate 2, but then I decided there was no way I'm gonna miss the first part. I don't remember how much time I have spent on the character creation screen; I didn't know what to expect, what to do, what was it all about, how to play it, but everything turned out great and that's even how my love for D&D began. Since then I have also played both Icewind Dale games, however I haven't finished either of them - there is definetely too much hack'n'slash, the game is all about killing and killing... so boring. I enjoyed Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, on the other hand, but I was very dissapointed with Diablo. And that's about all RPGs I have expierence with.
It's a little strange, because when I think of 'RPGs' I have in mind games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Morrowind or Dungeon Siege, and not the Final Fantasy series or any other jRPGs, so I guess I cannot count them here as 'favourite RPG'. It's kind of a different genre for me, although I also like Japanesse RPGs very much.
I really love the final fantasy games, can never decide if I prefer 7 or 10. 10 was just so visually stunning and most of the characters are likable it definitely has my favourite summon! I recently played an RPG called ARC which was good and reminded me quite alot of the final fantasy series! As for free roaming games I don't think you can beat neverwinter nights! I also like the combination of Rpg and first person shooter on Deus ex.
Xenogears is the best rpg for me of all time... the storyline is so expansive...
