Jared Loughner has been sentenced as part of a plea deal to life in prison in the Jan. 8, 2011, shooting spree in Tucson that killed six people and wounded 13 others. Among the wounded was U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot in the head. Under the deal, Loughner was to spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. Ref. USAToday

Former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is making a long-awaited push to help her successor, Democrat Ron Barber, in his closely watched race against Republican Martha McSally. Starting Wednesday, Giffords pro-gun control super PAC, Americans for Responsible Solutions, will start airing two TV commercials criticizing McSally for her opposition to legislation expanding background checks. The commercials are the first for the group, which Giffords formed last year.
