Racism - Page 2

Here in Trinidad I'm not a subject of racism, like any other primitive-thinking culture, the light-skinned people are the ones who are treated better, and yes, I'm hispanic but having most of the population in Trinidad being African descendant, I'm consider light-skinned. I already saw racism at the school where I work, race issues are a common topic of conversation here, even with the politic figures. It makes me sick, and I'm fed up of it. People who are racist need psychological treatment and I think they have a very low self-esteem.

I totally agree with that! In fact, I think in just about all cases where one person puts down another for no really justifiable reason it is a direct reflection of their own self-esteem. Great observation LDS!

I read once -- and I can't remember where just now -- that ignorance breeds fear which breeds hate. .. that because of ignorance of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, people fear each other. And the fear is shown as anger and hatred; because as humans we don't like to be afraid and so subconsciously we express the fear as anger. I thought that was an interesting insight.

Farseer, yes it is! most people are afraid of other cultures and races, specially if they have not traveled before, I find that people who have traveled more are more open than those who never did.

I was taught that in High School when we were studying about the KKK (KluKluxKlan)!

Racism

Racism has a toxic effect. Researchers have long known that racism is linked to health problems, but now results from a small study using RNA tests show that racism appears to increase chronic inflammation among African Americans. Source 6t.
