These groups might have merit during a collapse of government but once law enforcement is in place there should be a reason to have a show of arms or force because they can go over the top.

Having guns in case you need them is a good thing. Walking around in public showing off your guns (Particularly long guns which cannot be in a holster) is brandishing and intimidation. Between the citizens guarding the military centers and the ones guarding the "Muslim-free" Store, we keep having accidents, which does nothing but give the anti-gun people ammunition.
