Unconditional Love

What is unconditional love?

Are you capable of giving it?

Are you worthy to receive it?

Have you seen examples of unconditional love? Will you share them?

(I'm talking about romantic love, between man and woman, not the love of the Savior for us.)

Love Unconditional

Unconditional love is a love that is 'more than skin deep' it is a love that endures all the trials of life. Kind of like charity I guess, that's my understanding of it anyway.

I know that I could definitely have unconditional love for someone. But they would most definitely have to be worthy of that trust on my part. You cant have that kind of love for someone you don't or can't trust. On my mission that was the first thing that we where taught when we went to MTC as part of the 'commitment pattern', it was 'building relationships of trust'. It is a two way thing.

I have seen some examples of unconditional love, most of them are with senior citizens. I don't know exactly why the examples that I can think of are elderly people, anyway, the husband and wife seem to have a really deep relationship and they have total and abiding love that exists between them.

I see this too, with elderly couples who have been together for so many years they are like one person. Not all, of course, but some stand out in my memory -- they still hold hands, whisper and giggle together, finish each other's sentences. And then those who care for the other who becomes disabled or bedridden, either from age or stroke or disease. Now *that* is unconditional love...
