The San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings are going to take their rivalry outdoors next season. The NHL announced Wednesday that the Pacific Division foes will meet at the 49ers' new home in Santa Clara on Feb. 21. The $1.2 billion Levi's Stadium beat out the San Francisco Giants' cozier confines at AT&T Park for the game, which is part of the NHL's growing Stadium Series. This will be the second straight year the NHL has staged an outdoor game in California.

Goaltender Craig Anderson has signed a $12.6 million, three-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators. Anderson was acquired from Colorado in 2011 and is now under contract through the 2017-18 season. Anderson had an NHL-best .941 save percentage in the lockout-shortened 2013 season to help Ottawa make the playoffs amid injuries.

The Florida Panthers and No. 1 overall draft pick Aaron Ekblad have agreed on a three-year entry-level contract. Panthers general manager Dale Tallon announced the deal Wednesday, eight days before Ekblad will begin competing at Florida's annual camp for prospects. Ekblad was the Ontario Hockey League's top defenseman last season, with 23 goals and 53 points. Tallon says Ekblad ''is a talented, strong, smart and hardworking defenseman who is ready to take the next step.'' Ekblad also attended Hockey Canada's world junior summer development camp last month, his stay there ending early because of a concussion.

Johansen's agent, Kurt Overhardt, said the young star left Columbus on Wednesday afternoon - a day before the start of training camp. ''We just thought it was a good opportunity that he leave town and not be a distraction to his teammates.'' John Davidson, the team's director of hockey operations, and general manager Jarmo Kekalainen separately said ''enough is enough'' after what they contended were offers of $6 million for two years, $32 million for six and $46 million over eight years were refused by the restricted free agent center.
