Man charged for banana toss at Simmonds (AP)

Ontario police have charged a 26-year-old man who threw a banana on the ice toward Philadelphia Flyers player Wayne Simmonds during an NHL preseason game. Chris Moorhouse of London, Ontario, was served a summons for engaging in a prohibited activity under the provincial trespassing act. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $2,000.

Brodeur injures shoulder, out 7-10 days (AP)

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will miss seven to 10 days with an injury to his right shoulder. Brodeur was hurt last Thursday making a save in the first period of a game against the Los Angeles Kings. He missed Saturday's contest in Nashville against the Predators. The Devils said Wednesday that Brodeur won't play while he continues rehabilitation.

Rangers' Avery won't play Thursday (AP)

Sean Avery's NHL return is on hold for at least one more game. Avery rejoined the New York Rangers for practice Wednesday morning but was ruled out of Thursday night's home game against the Anaheim Ducks because coach John Tortorella wants to play the same lineup that beat the San Jose Sharks 5-2 on Monday night.
