Threats

Have you ever been threatened? Did you take it likely or was it serious enough that you went to the police and reported it. At what point should you take steps to ensure your protection? How do you know you are not overreacting to someone's loose words that if taken seriously could actually become a reality because of your inability to ignore it?

Threats

Have you ever been threatened? Yes, I was threatened a couple of times when I lived in Trinidad and attended high school there. There were some thugs in our neighborhood who didn't like me very much and felt that they had to threaten me to make themselves feel better.

Did you take it likely or was it serious enough that you went to the police and reported it. At first I did take it seriously and spoke with my family about it. However, I never had the need to involve the police; not like the police would have been able to help.

At what point should you take steps to ensure your protection? I think if it gets to the point where a person or people are constantly stalking you or going out of their way to threaten you, then it should be taken seriously. In my case, the threats only came when I was on the streets and they happened to see me. They never called me or came to my house, etc.

How do you know you are not overreacting to someone's loose words that if taken seriously could actually become a reality because of your inability to ignore it? I don't think there is an easy answer for this. It really would take some sort of action on their part to make one realize that they are not overreacting. It doesn't help either that the local law enforcement's hands are tied if no physical aggression has taken place.

QUOTE
Have you ever been threatened?

Yes, I have been, a couple of times. Once when I was 17 years old, I was traveling in a bus with my sister to school and these two bus drivers were traveling behind me as passengers and smoking so much!. I cannot stand cigarrettes and the law is that you cannot smoke in public transportation and I told them to please quit smoking because I was feeling very sick (I said this very politely) and they threaten me and my sister when I was leaving the bus. I told my family, we reported it to the bus administration with the number of bus, time, ticket, etc. They both were suspended. I did not feel the need of report it to the police though but it was scary.

No that I can recall....

As soon as the threat takes place, you should take extra precautions in order to protect yourself...

I firmly think you should take ALL threats VERY seriously....even if it seems 'not a big deal', it should be deal properly.
