Henry Burkhardt
During a 1954 interview, then-Elder Spencer W. Kimball of the Quorum of the Twelve was shocked to learn Burkhardt had been a missionary for 3½ years, telling him he would be released immediately but was to continue as mission presidency counselor. Ref. Source 5

Comments: My wife and I were able to attend a temple session in Frieberg, a few years ago while attending a meeting in Dresden. We were fortunate to meet Henry Burkhardt, and hear about his life, His childhood growing up under Adolph Hitler, then later with the East German Government, and now a United Germany. I have read about Elder Burkhardt's life, his times as a Missionary, his time as a Mission Counselor, and then later as Temple President. It must have been very difficult to expand the teachings of the Savior in then, East Germany, but need to follow the government, and politicians running the country. I'm not sure if Brother Burkhardt would remember my wife and I, but in the little time we spent together, I will remember his story, and those he helped for a long time. If this message gets to Brother Burkhardt, I would love to hear from you. [..]
