Detroit fans rally for RoboCop statue

Like RoboCop himself in the cult classic movie, plans for a statue of the mechanised crime fighter in Detroit may not be dead after all. Ref. Source 6

Wow, a Robocop statue. Really? I guess there's worse things, but public money spent on... A statue of an honestly BAD sci-fi 80s movie? What am I saying? On second thought, I'm actually all for that!

The movie itself I ... Mostly remember... Most of. I think. Peter Weller of course, he's hard to forget. The premise is beyond silly. Not a zombie. Not a cyborg. A zombie cyborg - essentially. Yes, he is "alive" and doesn't want brains, but still. The writing itself aside, just in the spirit of the actual plot, I can't imaging the scientists and law enforcement people sitting around thinking...

"You know, we sure could use more efficient law enforcement methods. People are good but they have problems, namely, besides wanting money and food and time off, they quit being useful when they get dead. Robots are really limited, even with AI, but they don't get dead real easy-like. Hmmm, I think I just had a brilliant idea..."

But somehow it worked, the movie set vaguely in the "dystopian future" that half the 80s and 90s movies were set in, gained a strong following, and endeared itself to multiple generations of movie-watchers, even as bad as it was - perhaps exactly because it was so bad. The sequels I can't begin to comment on, as I remember almost nothing about them, and I am pretty certain I'm grateful for that.

Robocop

I personally loved this movie as a child. I spent many hours pretending to be robocop. I do think the statue is a little much but that aside this movie is a classic. But then again I am a big sucker for scifi movies.
