I know the Bible said have faith in God and nothing is too great that God can't do.But the Bible did say faith without works is dead.
I mean if i'm going diving in the ocean and ask God to protect me from sharks then i should carry a spear and carry protection.
Even the other night when I was walking pass 10 dogs,I asked God to protect me but I still picked up a rock just in case they would have tried to attacked me.
But some people in my school church said if I have enough faith in God,he will protect from the sharks and the dogs and I won't need to seek protection from anything else.
In that case I mite as well be unwise, and dumb and decide one day and say eh let me drive in my sister's car today without a seat belt because the lord will protect me.
Gosh someone please explain what should I as a Christian do? Use protection or just fully believe in God.
Very you have got it down correct!
Faith in God means that you believe and have hope in the unseen powers of God, so if you have sufficent faith then He will help you with those things that you cannot see and with which you have no power over. Here are some points:
1. Like you said, faith and works go hand in hand, so long as we understand that our works only show our faith and it is not our works that save us.
2. When we have faith enough then God can make things happen that will protect us without us even knowing it. For instance, with your example with the dogs... maybe your faith will be strong enough that God would cause that the dogs would not even notice you or that if they did attack you that you would have sufficient speed to run or even better, the dogs will not be there in the first place! Many times God turns away danger without us knowning it, to us it seems like a quiet day, but if we did not have faith, or was not being good, we might have had an accident.
3. We can have faith and still see bad times (see story of Job), but it does not mean God is not there, but that He is in fact trying us (testing our faith in Him).
4. Faith is a gift from God and comes from being good. Do not expect to be doing bad things and then expect God to work for you because you say you have faith.
I could really go on and on, but....
I agree with everything JB says. Faith works, but we need to do our part. You have probably heard the saying: "God helps those who help themselves."
Here is a cute joke I heard once that is right on the subject:
This guy prays to God that he will win the lottery, but he doesn't win. So, again he prays that he will win the lottery and still he doesn't win. So, now he says to God, "The bible says 'ask and you shall receive' and I am asking that I win the lottery." So now again he is asking God to let him win the lottery. so, finally God says to him, "Give me a break, the least you could do is buy a ticket!"
@Tena good one
Great post Very, yes, faith and works goes hand by hand. I have met several people like the ones you mentioned who think you do not need to protect yourself if you have enough faith in God and they put themselves in the most dangerous situations. I think that's a lack of respect for God. He will protect us yes, if we are wise in our deals, if we follow his commandments, if we do not use our freedom to put danger into ourselves. I believe in miracles but I believe also in 'hard work of faith'
Can you imagine if we just sit down one day and say I'm not going to work today because I have enough faith in God and he will provide for a meal today?. -->
Part of that faith is knowing that God will equip us when need be. Obviously God isn't going to always provide some sort of physical protection, though He most certainly would be capable, but we already know He won't do everything for us. When we get sick, most of us usually don't just pray that God will heal us. We take medicine that He has given people the means and intelligence to create to help heal us. We don't usually sit around for weeks and allow ourselves to just be sick.
