'GRIDIRON GANG' SCORES BOX OFFICE TOUCHDOWN

It was another down weekend at the box office, although moviegoers helped Sony Pictures and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson score with the football flick "Gridiron Gang."

Gang Gridiron

Not a bad movie over all. The Rock showed once again that it takes a good actor to be a good wrestler. It is rather predictable in both plot line and ending. Another feel good football movie, where sports saves young lives thanks to a coach giving tough love. But he has to be the roughest coach I have ever seen. Since it was a prison game, he needed to really get through to these kids, so he does it with tough love.

This movie is based off a true story, so I think it's kind of hard to state, yet obvious at the same time, to say that it was predictable. Obviously had there been no good to come of this particular group, then we would not be seeing a movie about them now. At the same time, it depicts gang life in youth, and there is no certainty in that kind of life. You do not know if you are going to be alive one day or dead the next.

I enjoyed this movie so much, and working at a Children's Home and watching this with my teens, I think it only made it that much more emotional and home hitting for me. I could relate so many of our youth to certain characters and what they go through as far as a support structure. I think the story is also proof that when you give teenagers something positive to do, they are more likely to stay out of trouble. I think it also shows proof that giving teenagers a goal it builds their self esteem and gives them the desire to go further in life.

This movie portrayed the story of teens from all walks of life going through their struggles, and it's factual, which makes it even more powerful. I think the Rock did an excellent job in this movie and fit the role perfectly.

Gang Gridiron

In the Kilpatrick juvenile detention center, the supervisor and former football player Sean Porter sees the lack of discipline, self-esteem, union and perspective in the teenage interns and proposes to prepare a football team to play in one league. He is supported by his superiors and his successful experience changes the lives of many young kids.
