Dual Diagnosis
There are many things to consider when an alcoholic or drug addict is trying to seek help and get assistance in sobering up and staying sober. One of these is the possibility of more than one prominent disorder that may have been hidden behind the use of drugs and alcohol. Now that the chemicals are no longer being abused, other disorders may reveal themselves either slowly or drastically. Usually where a dual diagnosis is concerned, it is referring to a psychological disorder alongside the initial addiction. For instance, one can be an alcoholic and schizophrenic. This would be considered a dual diagnosis. Ref. Source 8
