When Just Sitting Down Hurts!

Hemorrhoids are not funny! I have very irregular bowel habits, which I'm meaning to talk to my doctor about since I've been suffering off and on for the past three or four months. I've been managing to sit in front of my computer for about an hour now, which is helpful considering how much time I've spent in bed since I can't sit long. Some serious painkillers are helping at the moment.

For three or four days I'll not have any bowel movement at all, even though I'm taking two Dulcolax tablets every night (its a popular combination laxative and stool softener). Then after four days I suddenly have to have three bowel movements in one day.

I think the system $%&@!. For whatever strange reason, the rectum is lined with blood vessels, and its blood vessels, not muscle, that's supposed to cushion the tissue when you have to move your bowels. There is the flaw in the system. Muscles are firm and toned, but blood vessels are easily prolapsed and stretched out of shape. Considering my lack of finances and medical insurance in a country without nationalized medicine, I can't afford to get help from a G.I. specialist. I'm not a happy camper. Maybe I should have placed this topic in "What's Bothering You?" But its my health that's bothering me, and I can't sit much longer, so I'll stop here and try to finish what computer communicatins need attended to. sad.gif

Hurts Sitting When

I honestly cannot say that I understand or know what hemorrhoids feel like. But what I can say is that it is awful that you are going thru all of that. Not to sound mean or anything but have you tried eating some foods with wheat in them. Wheat usually helps out a good bit. Although, you've probably already tried, that, I'm just offering some sort of help to your problem.

Also, I am not sure where you live. Do you live in the US? I know many states in the US have free clinics where the doctors, nurses, dentists, and nurse practicioners give back to the community by offering free services at the free clinic so others that don't have insurance or can't afford to pay the high medical bills will get the chance to see a doctor and get medical attention or help.

I hope something in my post possibly helped ya out.

Jeff, you need to clean up your system regularly. I recommend you to go by your nearest health food store and get some herbs that will allow you to clean up your system, you should do this regularly along with a proper diet (plenty fruits and fresh vegetables mainly, almost no meat if possible).

Hurts Sitting When

I once knew a guy who had hemoroids so bad he had them (it?) removed. He was in so much pain after the surgery, though, he said he wouldn't do it again if he had the same problem. Try Tucks?

Hurts Sitting When

First, I just have to say you are one brave hombre to discuss this sort of thing in a public forum!!! But okay, if we can somehow help, I suppose that's what it's all about anyway... smile.gif

What LDS said about cleaning out your system regularly, that's a good thing. Another thing you need to do often is exercise -- just an evening or morning walk around the block would do some good at "moving things along" in your intestinal tract. Another thing that works really well is to elevate your feet when you are having a movement. use a little footstool or even a pile of sturdy books. The way we are trained in the U.S. to use the bathroom is against body mechanics. What we should be doing is squatting! But can't do that with the "modern" or "civilized" or whatever you call 'em commodes. So raising your feet off the ground with a little footstool or something would put your body in a better position for elimination.

Then, change your eating habits -- choose fresh foods over canned or processed junk foods that clog up your system. White bread is one of the worst things you can eat. Fresh fruits and veggies, lots of clean water.

Good luck... and be sure to talk to your doctor!

Roz

When Just Sitting Down Hurts!

There's a lot of advice above. And all meant well.

But . . .

The last time I went to a "free clinic" for a skin lesion that was suspicious, they charged a fee.

As to cleaning my system, I tried "juicing" for more than four days: no foods except pure fruit juices without sweeteners. It didn't seem to help.

Wheat? I don't know. I eat a lot of beans, which are rich in fiber, but that hasn't ever helped. I was taking a psyllium laxative (metamucil) twice every day, but it didn't help either. I gave up on it after about a year as a waste of time.

Sorry to be a negativist, but all I can say is "been there, done that." Except for changing my position when using the toilet, which is an interesting thought I've never heard mentioned before. Relying more on gravity and less on my own abdominal force would make a difference.

Thanks for the advice.

When Sitting Hurts!

I worked with a man who suffered badly with this, and he was back and forward to the Doctor, and nothing prescribed seemed to help.
He eventually saw a different doctor who recommended he try probiotic yogurts, just 1 a day, apparently there is some sort of 'live culture' in them that helps the digestive system.
He tried this, and as long as he remembered to take 1 every day, he said they practically cleared the problem up.
