Finnish tabloid Iltalehti on Saturday quoted a Taloustutkimus poll as indicating that Mari Kiviniemi (centre), the prime minister, was the top contender to lead the government after April's general election.
Iltalehti added that the poll had given Kiviniemi an approval rating of 36 per cent, up from 29 per cent in a similar survey carried out last month.
Jyrki Katainen, the Conservative party leader and finance minister, came second with 23 per cent, followed by Timo Soini, the True Finns leader, with 14 per cent, and by Jutta Urpilainen, the SDP leader, with six per cent.
