Future Earth Data
This background information is made specifically for the Future Earth game.

During the early part of 2020 a war broke out that did not involve nuclear bombs, but nuclear technology. Governments found a way to initiate small nuclear bombs called, "Nukies" That affected areas in a 1 mile radius, but the aftermath of radioactivity would only last for a month rather than years.

The war itself involved a few powerful nations that in the end decided that to continue would mean the downfall of the human race. After this war was over man as a whole worked on a few projects that enabled regular travel to the moon and then around the galaxy. Several space stations were setup and life became regularized on Mars through the melting of a huge glacier that was found in the northernmost regions.

Space travel beyond the galaxy is still in the genesis and light travel is still not possible, at least not yet, but man seeks to move ahead at an increasing pace with the USA and Russia still heading the pack with many other strong nations such as India, China and Canada close behind.

You live in a regularized city in the USA. Resources are scarce as people live longer and more is required to meet the demands of other planets, therefore there is not much decor or care for looks in the city or its surrounding towns. Most people struggle each day to find work and something to eat. This is why you have always been in search for adventure, for a better way of life, for escape from the city to the stars.

The law allows you to seek employment based on your skills. You may carry slugged weapons, no laser and no alien technology, you should always have your ID with you and a card that contains your credits (Money). If you loose your card then you loose your money (Unless you deposit it in a bank). Most folk do not like retina ID because they believe people inside the government can use it to blackmail you.

General Knowledge

People are often independent in Future Earth as the family system has deteriorated drastically. There is rarely any distinction between what women or men can do and both are seen equal except in the case of nature and the natural order of things, however even this has changed a lot with the use of special drugs that can make men more 'manly' and women more 'feminine' and vice versa. In fact, often scans are made in conjunction with ID to determine if the individual has done any kind of laser surgery to distort their look.

Religion is still available, but everyone seems to rely more on scientific knowledge rather than the unseen, therefore most men are more logical in their perception of things unless they are on drugs. Drugs is a big problem. There are many home labs where crazed college students often conduct experiments to find something that gives you a 'different' feeling from the next drug dealer's product.

The number one goal of most humans is survival, those that have the opportunity use education as a means to do this. The work force is always plentiful and thus the best man is hired. Sometimes there is no control among the poor class and mobs are found, but the police, an awesome power to be reckoned with, often quells any uproars.

The police is the most awesome of functional jobs since they work with very sophisticated equipment. The military, is also tech savvy, but is rarely seen since most countries disabled their military in exchange for police states which helped everyone to keep in order.

A world government was formed, but mostly as a supreme guide for external matters outside of the Earth. This government is constantly under threat by independent groups that think society is kept back by the dogma and red tape of leaders within society.

The network is a huge information database accessable via any hand computer. It enables you to send and receive information as well as tap into the World Library. The World Library is maintained by a central group that seeks to provide knowledge to all of humankind so as to promote development and awareness.

Technical History and Developments

How Interplanetary Travel Became Possible

After many years of research a team of global scientists came up with a way to cause miniature nuclear reactions to somehow be controlled to work with a uniquely designed engine that could propel great mass at amazing speeds. However, this technology is mostly limited to military and scout exploration. The furthest man has reached is within his own galaxy, but many moon bases and space stations have been established. Speed of travel to the most distant planet or moon is about one day, but with the experimental crafts it can be even faster.

The Network

After the revolution of the internet died down something called, 'The Network' took over. It is basically like an interactive television that allows constant communication between parties anywhere the Network is accessible. To access the Network you should have some kind of personal computer. The network uses something called, 'energy waves' much like a radio, so you do not need to be 'plugged' into anything unless it is a secure system.

Communication

Being in touch with someone is very easy and most devices give you local, regional and even planetary coverage once you have the money. Beware though, just as you can speak, someone can hear.

Man's Objective

To reach beyond our galaxy. No aliens have been found, at least no official contact has been made as yet, or so the governments will have us believe, but some think the sudden discoveries in flight speed might have been due to alien technology. The best thing about Future Earth is the more money you have the more of a merchant you can become, and the more of a merchant you can become the more likely you are to be allowed to trade with other sectors in space. Some merchants have reached so far in their success that they have bought huge freighters (space ships) that carry items from planet to planet.

Law

For most places law has become strength as man has become more and more lawless. Typically some countries allow their citizens to operate with slug weapons, but laser and neuro technology is left to authorized personnel only. Of course like any other world there is a 'black market' that facilitates these items at a significant price.
