Utah Democrats to Mormon voters: Give us a chance
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Democrats have been looking to expand their voter share in the state by offering moderate Mormons a political home. And party leaders and pollsters say the strategy appears to be working. Ref. Source 1
LDS Democrats to gather at Democratic Convention
"Hopefully it will be a big splash," said Craig Janis, outreach director for the LDS Democratic caucus in Utah. "I don't think there has ever been in either party a specific event for Mormons at the convention." Ref. Source 4
I don't know how any right thinking Mormon can support the Democrats at the moment. Maybe it would have been OK a couple of decades ago but now they just promote abortion, gay rights, and atheism... Things members of the church just don't side with.
Probably in another era the democratic party might have had values worth voting for but under Obama there is an over emphesis on abortion, big government and a welfare state... All things that the church has always spoken out against.
Anyone who were voting for the Dems, which by the way I don't get, will be happy to have the senate and Obama back in power but they won't reach anywhere with a Republican controlled house.
It remains impossible for a USA Democrat to be Mormon in terms of agreeing with the doctrine.
A Democrat will automatically be opposed to LDS doctrine on the following critical moral and doctrinal matters.
-Agency and personal responsibility (Socialism and the welfare state, Law of Consecration).
-Gay marriage.
-Abortion.
-Feminism (third wave and higher).
-Capital Punishment
Etc.
Even if a Democrat claims to be with the LDS Church on these issues (they wouldn't be a very good Democrat then), they still vote organizationally for that platform and therefore, by the Romans 1:32 principle, are in conflict with God and the Church.
While the Church itself is politically neutral, one shouldn't take this as acceptance of Democrat or politically Liberal positions by the Church. Also, holding a temple recommend doesn't automatically mean one's beliefs are justified in the sight God.
The late Pres. Faust was a Democrat up to his dying day so according to what you said Pres. Faust wasn't a very good Democrat.
